I am on a 30-day 8GB plan. Speeds at my home location are normally about 10mb but recently I've noticed its become painfully slow. I travel a lot with work so today I've been in three cities across the East Midlands and done speed tests there too and it is religiously maxing out at 0.39mb.

I have 6GB data remaining so have nowhere near ran out.

I rang customer service who went through the whole "take sim out wipe it" script. Tried this no improvement.

Using an iPhone 6S+

Any suggestions / similar experiences?

"Take SIM out and wipe it"

I'd leave them solely for suggesting something so daft.

I've been having problems with my 6s as well on Virgin. It seems to stream spotify and tunein radio ok, but whenever i'm using safari, it does seem to take an age to load pages - same with stuff like Facebook and Twitter.

I've got "unlimited" data, but I rarely, if ever, hit the mythical 3.5gb 'limit' though.

Have you got a speed test app?

I've just downloaded one to do and it's actually pretty decent - i'm getting 9.41mb down and 1.54mb up.

This could just be because i'm at home though because i've certainly had the issues you mention while i'm out.

Funny thing is, I only get 0.79mb up on my home wifi

Im convinced they've capped me. The only thing I've done different is download the iOS 9.3 beta. Surely that couldn't affect it?

The betas have never been more than a couple of gig at best, so I can't imagine that would affect it at all.

I don't suppose you use the WiFi buddy app ?. That's quite handy as long as you reset it each time your allowance rolls over - gives you an accurate representation of your usage on WiFi and data as well.

But then I'd just ring and ask outright if you've been capped. You might get lucky and find someone at the call center who will tell you.

Have endured same slow problems but have solved it just before I threw iPad Air against wall. Settings, Safari, turn off Safari suggestions. Hope it works for you.

That looks to me like the 384kbit/s speed cap is in place - though I only thought it was on "unlimited" data plans? (I use that phrase very loosely because it was only 3.5GB before said 384 kilobits came in.)

I'd personally get moving to EE, where you can get 4G and full speed 3G.

I've got that "unlimited" deal too, but it's not unlimited, it's 3.5GB; after which you get stuck on 384 kilobits.

Thankfully I have never hit that limit though; if I did, I would have got my PAC ages ago.

It's really pissing me off because Until a few days ago speeds were brilliant - the cap has just appeared for no reason. Customer services are absolutely useless and either don't understand what I'm asking or want me to do completely unrelated tests on my phone (perhaps in the hope that I'll "go away")

That's why I put "unlimited" in quotes - I'm aware of the alleged cap. I checked back I did blitz my allowance in the first month I had it and clocked up 6.5gb. I never experienced any slowdowns or caps though.

Update: finally got through to someone who could understand me.

Apparently even though I have an 8GB allowance (and they sell 4GB ones too) the minute ANY user on their network hits 3.5gb in a calendar month then the 386Kb speed allowance kicks in. Regardless of how much you have left. There is absolutely nothing they can do about it apparently and They've just successfully given me my PAC code.

How ridiculous!!

That's interesting. I can honestly say I never experienced a slowdown when I went over my limit on the first month, but then maybe the reason is right there - it was my first month on "unlimited" data so maybe there's some leeway because it's the first month and it's the "unlimited" package ?

Ah well, at least you got your PAC though.

The confusing part is the speed cap kicks in when you reach 3.5GB in a CALENDAR month not BILLING. So theoretically if your refresh date is on the 15th you could be capped quite early on into your new billing month - like I was. Bizarre business practice.
