Google Maps Offline Areas
Android, Moto G, Version 3.
Am I doing something wrong with Google Maps. I can save areas of the map for use online. Fine, that works well. To test it I go to airplane mode, open Maps, use the menu to go to 'Offline'. This gives me a list of my offline areas, and I select one. This goes to a screen with a tiny image of the offline area in the top half. The bottom half offers two options : delete or update. I can't find any way to open the offline area from this screen. What am I missing? I'm getting exactly the same on my iPad. I've tried googling, and every set of instructions I look at stops after you've downloaded the areas. |

Just use google maps as you normally would, when you're offline, tapping on a place will show a little lightening bolt icon to show you're viewing offline information. Panning and zooming should work as normal, there is no need to use the app differently.
"using your downloaded area, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. Get directions and see routes on Google Maps Use turn-by-turn navigation If your Internet connection is slow or absent, you'll see a lightning bolt and Google Maps will use your offline areas to give you directions." |

Thanks, I've tried that, and it works.
![]() If you're offline and go into "search", you get a list of your offline areas, which looks like a menu, but it isn't. Presumably just to remind you what offline areas you have. I also found that you didn't need to use the names you've given the offline areas, just a place (city, town or street for example) within one of them. I think it was much easier when it was "My Places", and you just clicked on the area. Incidentally, where did he quote come from? I don't remember seeing it. |
