It seems I'm in the minority regarding wrestling t-shirts, interesting.

Personally I grew out of it when I became a teenager but I guess if people are happy to post about wrestling on an internet forum then they're happy enough to wear a wrestling T-shirt in public. Makes sense, I guess.

Depends what kind of shirt. For example you could wear the shirt with Dean Ambrose's logo on it and unless you know what it is, well i'd probably think it was a brand. Or like the logo of a band or something.

Exactly. I don't see wearing a wrestling shirt to be any different to wearing a shirt related to anything that you're a fan of. I regularly wear my wrestling shirts to work, in fact most of my t-shirts are wrestling related. The only one that takes any explaining is the Sami Zayn - InZayn one and that's only because people think it's a One Direction shirt.

I guess it comes down to how comfortable you are admitting that you like wrestling. At my age, I don't really care. I work in a large, open plan area and on the rare occasions when I do mention wrestling (only because no one else around me watches it but I'll always say if I'm going to a show) I still get the "fake" comments from one guy for the last 8 years and I can still hear the sniggers of other people when I mention it.

But I really don't care. I haven't got a clue what they're all talking about when they discuss football. To me, that's just as incomprehensible as wrestling is to them.

To the "fake" comments I always reply in the same way - "You don't get it." And I actually feel sorry for them, that they'll never get why wrestling, when done well, can be like no other form of entertainment on the planet.

I have no shame in admitting I'm a wrestling fan.

A quick example, my brother knows I love wrestling, so had him watch Wrestlemaina with me. I sold it to him (his 10 year old kid like it) by saying Brock Lesnar will be in a bloody hardcore match and it will be a brutal match to watch (stop laughing at the back)

Of course the match comes and goes in 10 minutes and he sees a monster like Lesnar acting hurt from being hit by a kendo stick. Then the match being as bad as it was did not help.

So yeah, I try to keep it quite these days lol”

It kinda reminds me of this guy I went on a training course with. Didnt know he was into wrestling till he saw my Stone Cold shirt which we chatted about but his mates just made a laugh at us for liking wrestling. All the names about it being fake and shit we even tried to explain to them the Mick Foley/Rock Royal Rumble 2000 match and they went on about the blood and chairs being fake and wish I hadent bothered answering them.

I even tried to say how the hell could the guy use fake blood if his hands were handcuffed behind his back, they just said maybe he has a tube on his back.

I never did grown out of it, religiously watched it every week for the past 3 decades.

Ive seen a few fans in public with wrestling not many but a few, I remember back in 2002 waiting at a bus stop seeing a bunch of teenagers walking past and didnt pay much attention well never paid attention when I was 25 but there is another bus stop right at the otherside of town as you can see it well and 1 of those kids took his jacket off showing a Austin shirt so at the loudest voice possible I screamed at the top of my lungs " GIMMIE A HELL YEAH! "

The kid looked round and I didnt do anything then he looked around again and this time I did that Austin thing he did at Mania 15 when he climbed the ropes put his hands on his mouth and raising both middle fingers in the air, the one when he won the belt and first time he was on the turnbuckle with the belt. The kid immediately raised both fingers in the air when he saw this, then both our buses turned up and went our separate ways.

Was a cool moment.

My favourite wrestling shirt is my Gunner one, because even wrestling fans assume I'm completely insane.

My reply would be 'You try doing what they do for 3 months and then get back to me'

I remember when Louis Theroux did his documentary on wrestling and mocked it to begin with and then when he had to do some of the training and promos, he ended up vomiting, couldn't handle it.

The fact is, even though it's only scripted and choreographed, wrestlers have one of the toughest jobs out there in the entertainment field. They work 250/300 days a year, have to travel an enormous amount of miles to get to venues. They deserve respect and like I said earlier, anybody mocking them should walk in their shoes for 3 months, I bet they change opinion after those months.

Totally. Wrestling is damn hard. It *looks* hard, and it's actually harder than it looks. Many athletes from other fields come over and find they just can't do it; not talented enough.

And that's before you even factor in the schedule, the injuries and fatigue, and the fact that to be really successful you also need charisma and passable acting skills.

I'm almost 40 and wear one on occasion. No-one tells you what to wear, wear whatever you want. It's a t-shirt FFS, it's not like walking round with a wrestling buddy...

Certainly I "grew up" for a time in teenage/early 20s but then you grow up again and realise that tou should do what YOU want.

(Which would also be cool if that's what you want to do. There's no law stopping you.)

You look like a right Kunta. (j/k)

Are those wrestling crates like the loot crate ones? How much are they?

Wrestlers are amongst the fittest athletes out there.

I always remember seeing I think it was the original Tough Enough series where they showed a training session at the very beginning, and do many people just throwing up, and that was after just one session!

Just try and imagine doing a Hbk v Bret Iron Man match, going for sixty minutes (actually longer), the only people that could possibly understand this is what the match is named after, iron men (the sport with swimming, cycling send running).

Not only do you have to be athletic, you also have to be entertaining as well.

It is such a hard, hard combination to get right, and unlike other athletic events, where you can be dull as dishwater, yet be good, that simply wouldn't be acceptable here.

So to those people who have said to me it is fake etc, (and over the years, there have been quite a few), I always say, go ahead, give it a go if it is that easy, but I bey you will not be able to hack one training session, let alone a single match!

It is very easy to mock, but a heck of a lot harder to actually do this, nevermind do it well and to a very high degree.

To fair to Louis he did come off as a bit of a ass the way he just said it. Its always been the no no thing to ask a wrestler. But Parker did kinda over react not when asked but when he had him in training. The vomiting thing I guess he couldnt hack it, plenty of people could just unsure what made him sick the army thing or he couldnt handle doing pressups.

Funnily enough I was the same. Too preoccupied with trying to be cool 15 - 21ish, but then realised 'cool' people were dull and I should get back to my geek roots. Lucky too, since geeks ended up running the world. Who knew?

Definitely. My theory is that wrestling is just too absurd for people who take themselves too seriously. And most people who don't take themselves too seriously are pretty decent.

The Wembley Travelodge the night of the 2013 TNA show was one of the friendliest, maddest places I've ever been. The party went on nearly all night - the staff didn't know what to make of it. WWE fans are also awesome of course. I bet the hotels around the arena over Wrestlemania week are amazing.

A dark day for WCW and just one of many stupid ideas that led to it's demise.

Blame Russo!

I like how certain subsets of fandom have embraced the 'fakeness' of it such as the guys over at The Lapsed Fan podcast. I think they're bringing out 'Fake Fighting' and 'Imaginary Athletics' t-shirts.

I have 4 wrestling t-shirts:

Austin 3:16 (which I've had since the 90's), Daniel Bryan Yes! Yes! Yes!, Nexus and CM Punk - Best in the World.

I wouldn't mind getting the Suplex City and New Day t-shirts at some point in the future.

I've worn all of them out and about especially Punks (but then I have a wide range of t-shirts from tv shows, movies, music, Nintendo and they all get similar reactions from time to time if recognised, always positive)

Quite a few of my cousins all in their 20's and 30's watch wrestling as do people I play football with and against and ex work colleagues plus whenever I meet up with old school friends, wrestling gets discussed quite often.

And people wonder why wrestling fans often get looked down upon.

And yet Vince Russo thought that was a good idea hence why WCW no longer insists and Vince Russo no longer has a job.
