It would all depend on how they play it, even though in all honesty I have little faith in modern day WWE. Generally, it would be Taker having to fight for his career vs. Shane fighting to ensure the future of the company. Babyface vs babyface, with an arguably increasingly deluded 'genius?' Vince in the background. A 'reality era' segment between Taker and Vince could be brilliant - the one on Raw was 95% superb.

If in kayfabe Shane did win (albeit help from someone) and take control of WWE, it would be quite symbolic if to do he had to retire one of his dad's era's greatest creations.

Like you I'm not keen on his career threatening match being against a middle aged non wrestler. But then I can't think of a better scenario running in the background. Only a career match against a heel Cena would top it, IMO.
Why does everyone presume Taker vs Shane is happening? Shane could easily back of of the match and choose a replacement.

I'm not sure whether people using the term 'IWC' in 2016 is funny or sad.

Taker as a heel in Texas, at Wrestlemania?

Yeah, good luck with that.

To play devil's advocate, if someone did want to refer to that sort of group (and I think we know what people mean normally when they say IWC) what would be the alternative phrase to use?

Also, while a bit off-topic, I find watching Arsenal and WWE very similar.

A) Both run by old men with white hair who fans are turning against,
B) both full of injuries,
C) Both have talent full of potential,
D) Both have some people who you're amazed are still employed.
E) both have some talent that need a good haircut,
F) both at times seem to fight against their own fanbase and
G) both at times are utterly frustrating.

I don't mind the use of IWC as a term, it's the sneering way with which it's done. Anybody on the internet to discuss wrestling using forums/Disqus (a community) are by the nature a member of the IWC.

The term itself I have no issue with

Agreed actually. That said not sure there's a better term to use. 'Smarks' seems a bit aloof and just designed to fit whatever agenda the poster has (as if everyone's the same person online) and 'people online' etc. the same.

And to be fair if others online don't agree with the opinion someone has, it's easy for that person to group everyone who disagrees with you as being the same. And I'm certainly guilty for it - we probably all are lol.

I'd agree with most of your Arsenal comparisons. The main difference between the two being that I don't have a mini heartattack/breakdown everytime watch WWE.

The underwhelming feeling after watching them both is the same.

Both have those moments though that keep you watching.
As the saying goes "A lot of it sucks, but when it's good it's ****ing great".

I know what you mean though with those mini heartattacks. Those combined with the late nights watching PPVs live have probably taken years off my life.

One other similarity I've noticed - one has Welsh Jesus, the other has Kneesus.

Someone might have brought this up before we got our new shiny thread. I was watching the latest Supernatual episode and noticed they cast The Miz in the episode and he was playing a wrestler (insert your own jokes lol). Dunno if anyone watches the show here but i thought i would share it with you and i thought he played the part great because he basically played The Miz persona.

Hey mate.

I've no doubt he acted well - he's an A-List Hollywood actor.

The angle they're going for with Taker seems obvious to me, in that he'll clarify he's not fighting for Vince, he's fighting for his own Wrestlemania honour. He may have lost once but will be damned if he loses again etc etc. No need to turn anyone or get Taker involved with the McMahon family drama.

I see Kurt Angle has said AJ Styles is the best he's ever faced. Angle is no longer under contract with TNA, or indeed anyone, so high praise indeed given he has wrestled HBK, Taker, Lesnar, Jericho, Benoit...

Fans. Smarks. Anything.

When one of WWE's main business models literally depends on their fans being on the internet, talking about an IWC as if it's some fringe minority like it was in the 90s is very outdated.

And the only reason anyone still watches them is with a faint hope of a return to the glory days!

Vince does share some characteristics with Mourinho too. Grey hairs, stubborn and well-known to lose the plot and fire people over whatever he wants.

Though on these WWE/sport comparisons, the Punk and Kevin Pietersen sagas aren't too dissimilar either.

Aren't you meant to be an Arsenal fan lol?

I find both make the other slightly more bearable.
Both too have passionate online fanbases who love nothing more than moaning before then watching again the next week.

Aaah the glory days ... Robert Pires *drools*.

Isn't Cena meant to be a Spurs 'fan' (as in he got given a Spurs shirt once when in London)? Though I somehow doubt he'd have any clue who Hugo Lloris is.

I think HHH got a West Ham top when he was over for the London Takeover show, which I watched for the first time today btw.

A WWE London derby on the cards?

I remember Cena being on Soccer AM being interviewed by Tubes in a pre recorded interview from White Hart Lane so yes I think he is a Spurs fan sadly.

The London show was pretty decent.

I finally get what the 'West Ham Way' is now. It's clearly to bury whoever you can while delivering 20 minute speeches.

Apparently HHH said this..
“West Ham is probably the closest to what we do, with the passion of their fanbase and their loyalty, right? That’s the closest to what we do.”
He clearly doesn't think much of WWE fans.

Also, here's Carlisle United fan Kelly Kelly.

Can I just take some time to bitch about how many talented wrestlers don't have any direction for Wrestlemania?

New Day are one of the most popular acts around but it seems like ages since they've actually had a feud. Not sure whether they'll turn face and have a six man against League of Nations or defend the tag titles against AJ and Jericho, who also seem to have lost any direction to their feud. Owens seems to be left in the lurch as well. Neville hasn't done anything in ages and Kalisto seems to be back to teaming with Sin Cara even though he's the US champ. Such a pity because I enjoyed his matches with Del Rio.

There's loads to sort out direction-wise from here to Mania.

HHH and Stephanie are Sullivan and Gold (or maybe Karen Brady) while Kevin Dunn is Big Sam?

Sounds similar to the build to Mania 29.

People left in limbo and feuds thrown together or started and totally forgotten about.

HHH and Stephanie are Sullivan and Gold (or maybe Karen Brady) while Kevin Dunn is Big Sam?
I know you're not Steph's biggest fan but she looks a bit better than Gold and Sullivan.
Unless you're saying Steph should be made a Baroness.

Dunn's as attractive as Big Sam.

Who on earth is Slaven Bilic in that case?

Sounds promising....

One would think that given all the injuries, they'd put their absolute all into having exciting feuds with the others to make up for it. Clearly not.

Shhhh, I haven't thought it that far through yet....
