Having had my sky q installed yesterday
Time to think now to get tv replaced for a uhd 4k one in time for when sky 4k goes live
Have enjoyed my Panasonic TX-L47WT50B, do not mind Samsung products
Not sure about the whole curved thing, it will be wall mounted
55 - 60 inch would be the size
Something similer to this TX-55CX802B and UE55JS8500
Don't suggest Sony
Will most probably buy from John Lewis

Any suggestions?

Don't get Panasonic. Read about the fiasco with them no longer working with ITV HD because they did not design them to the full DVB specs. Customer service don't want to know and try to blame everyone else except their designers.

Also bear in mind the full 4K specs have not yet been finalised so a set bought now may not work fully in the future.

The issue is with Panasonic TV's and PVR's with built in Freesat satellite tuners. A lot will not work with ITV HD following a change to the forward error correction mode. Panasonic are refusing to fix despite there own technical spec stating the paramaters used by ITV-HD are supported. No one is saying that an external tuner like your Sky box won't work with these TV's.

Avoid curved, they add nothing to the pq or experience.
If in no hurry, wait a month or three as this years range will start to appear around about that time. These will have had more refinements to the picture processing, probably better motion handling, better colours etc + be more likely to support any newer 4k formats that are still in flux. Also they are more likely to do the HDR stuff too. We're off this week the Panasonic dealer show to see the 2016 range.
As for the freesat issue, no idea what's going on there. No one has reported any issues to us yet.

I have the UE55JU8000 which is flat and I think doesn't have local dimming compared to the JS8500.

The UHD picture is fantastic, shame I don't have much UHD stuff to watch.

The HD picture is pretty good, but SD stuff looks soft compared to my old 40in HD TV.

Just watch out for screen quality, especially banding, which can plague the larger screen sizes.

Well it seems you really are "in your own world" as you put it.

There are long threads about this issue on AV Forums, Boards IE, and DIgital Spy.

Isn't this for tv's/pvr's made between 2009-2012?

If so this shouldn't affect the OP and their new purchase.....

OK, so to read the threads about this issue I would need to know there is an issue to read about. Now I'm aware of it I can do all the research in the world to get information.
As I have already said, we have had NO ONE come in to our store with this issue for me to discover there is one.
I have a bit of a life and don't just monitor threads for keywords or problems on products that I didn't know existed.

Until something else crops up that Panasonic is not compatible with. This not the first or even second time this sort of problem has occurred with Panasonic.

Remember the split nit.
Remember MPEG 4 sets not working in Ireland.

Oled is definitely a tv i want next with 4k. My concern is screen burn which I've read oled tvs can suffer from. As you own one you'd be in great position to say how it is.

nope, not seen any, and I use quite a few things that like to leave images on the screen, youtube, kodi, netflix etc, never had a problem. With my old plasma even though I didn't get any burn, if you left something on the screen for maybe longer than a couple of minutes you'd get a residual image left, until the pixels cleared it away.

The picture is excellent, blacks are super black, the 3d works really well (never thought I'd say that). Web browser is good, I actually use it a quite a bit, and it has the more useful apps built in like Prime, Netflix, Youtube etc all work flawlessly.

Which one did you get, be nice to know what you think?

I had a look in John Lewis and Currys today and the one I really like is the 58DX750B
I negotiated and managed to get a good deal at JL with a five year guarantee, have a few days to decide
I may have to get a different wall hanging kit, but I can exchange my current one at no cost if its not the same

I've also just got Sky Q and thought exactly the same. A few months ago I went into John Lewis and liked the Sony kd55x85 but the mew models are out now and KD55XD8577SU looks good but is £500 dearer. Also need to look at the Panasonic 58DX750

Decisions decisions

Having now got Q I will be looking at getting a 4k TV but I'll be waiting until I see what sky bring out. I'm not sure when that will be. Price range will be around 2k mark and it'll be oled.

You should be looking at LG then, as the only company with the courage to actually continue large screen OLED development.

Panasonic do OLED too, the screen will be made by LG, the rest of the tech I believe is from Panasonic.

The Panasonic OLED range is very limited, if fact I can only find one model with a quick search. I've said it before; I was waiting for OLED but LG are the only company doing it. The likes of Panasonic are continuing to improve LED and the latest 4K sets are very good. I recommend a side by side viewing and ask yourself if it's worth the extra money.

Sony do too, but as I said only LG had the courage (and billions!!) to actually get large screen OLED screens working.

In a few months time is there gonna be much difference with regards hardware upgrades?

I think now is not a great time to be buying TV's. At least not until Ultra HD Premium becomes more widespread and affordable. It is going to be the next generation standard, everyone that matters is finally on board, and the vast majority of TV's at the moment fall short. You are currently looking at £2,000-£3,000 for a good Ultra HD Premium TV.

So the dust is starting to settle on next generation, but we're not quite there yet.
