Looking to start a small business. Don't want to carry two phones or buy dual SIM phone and have two contracts.

Is there a way of also having business number on same phone?

I've heard Google voice isn't hugely reliable. Last thing I want to do is spend hundreds on advertising and then find out people can't get through.

Suggestions?

If you want reliability, you have 2 choices, a dual sim phone or carry 2 phones.

Not what I wanted to hear

Any almost reliable services you know about?

EE used to sell two numbers on one phone, not sure if that's still around.

You can get phone numbers that call apps, such as SkypeIn/SkypeOut and others.

Pretty much as above, if your buisness phone is only going to be for voice and text then a two phone solution could be the best option hwhere your personal phone is a smart phone and your buisness phone is an older style feature phone ( ie non touch screen)

I have call forwarding set up on my backup / emergency phone to my main phone so that is another option (doesn't work for texts though).

Know a couple of people who have a business phone but leave it at home on charge and divert all calls to their personal phone. Not much use if you dial out though.

If you use the iPhone there are all sorts of clever things you can do with Handoff and iMessage.

However, I'd just have one number for everything. It's what I've always done.

Maybe Vodafone One Net Express?

I use a dual sim phone. My business number which i have had for over twenty years is now on a PAYG sim, whilst i have a contract sim for my other phone use. I only use the business sim for receiving calls so don't need a contract. If i do need to call business customers i just block my number.

If you block your number none of your business calls would get answered by me and by many others who are inherently suspicious of blocked numbers.

I also don't answer withheld/"unavailable" calls - 100% of the time when I do, it's a cold caller or "Barry from Windows" who is just dying to tell me that my computer is gravely ill

Yeah, don't want to withhold number - unprofessional.

I'll need to call out and receive calls, so call forwarding would only solve the latter.

Phoned my provider but got far east tech support who do weekends and didn't have a clue what I was asking. Will try again tomorrow.

Appreciate all the suggestions by everyone. Thanks.

I had a contract many years ago with Orange that had what you need, may be worth you while checking if they still offer this ?

Orange line 2 ended back in 2010.

Under France Telecom they were slowly stripped of everything that made them good.

I use voipfone.co.uk with their "line presentation" feature to achieve close to what you need.

Basically I rent a landline number with voipfone for business calls, then have it on permanent redirect to my mobile number. I then use the line presentation feature so the number displayed on my mobile is the number that's been called (i.e. the business number) not the number of the actual caller.

This means I answer the call on the business number with the business name, as I know which calls are personal vs business.

It's not free as it costs a few pounds, but certainly not expensive.
