I need to connect it to

You don't give enough information - does the DVD/Surround have HDMI-ARC or not?.

If it does, then TV HDMI-ARC to Surround sound, and the other two HDMI's to TV.

Otherwise, optical to TV, and another HDMI from DVD/Surround to TV.

Hi,

Thanks for reply, I don't think it does as it is quite old Sony dav dz260

So I will need to go from surround sound optical to TV, and another HDMI from DVD/Surround to TV yes??

Cheers

Yes - basically - although the optical is for sound from TV to surround, and the HDMI is picture from DVD to TV. If you had HDMI-ARC it does both ways through the same HDMI lead.

Don't forget an aerial connection for those Freeview channels not on satellite.

You're assuming he can get Freeview, or indeed that he wants to? - but in the case of either, it's not relevant to his original question.
