I bought a Sony KDL-43W755C Android TV from Very on 04/02 and it was delivered on 08/02 and after three weeks, I have noticed a dead pixel in the centre of the screen, it is a red pixel that is dead. I'm just wondering what my options would be about it, would I be entitled to a replacement TV?

Go for it, we are being held hostage by the manufacturers, who don't seem to care about quality control. If more people returned their TVs because of the LCD lottery, they might do something about it.

Very suggest contacting the manufacturer first.

Sony - TV/DVD/Audio 0345 6104164
Mon - Fri 9am to 6pm
Find out what their 'Dead Pixel Policy' is. Otherwise just return it as you would like a different model.

Sadly the LCD Lottery means that all makes of screen have problems, be it dead pixels, banding, or DSE etc.

My new tv has mild banding on horizontally panning scenes. It is just about something I can put up with, but if it gets any worse I'll have to return it.

After making LCD and LED TVs for the past 10 years since the demise of CRT TVs, you'd think they'd make them better.

IMO the main problem is quality control, or the lack of it.

Apparently the process of making LCD panels is complicated and there are always going to be defects, but they really need to weed out the bad batches and stop using manufacturers with low quality controls.

For my model of TV there were 3 different manufacturers for the panels. Sadly mine was one of the ones from the low quality factory.

Well they are trying it on aren't they? Your contract is with Very not the manufacturer. Under the sale of goods act Very are responsible for the goods they sell.

Hi,

You have not been given very helpful advice so far but Winston is correct, your contract is with Very not Sony. Do not contact Sony. Forget the Sale of Goods Act as it has been replaced by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for goods bought on or after 1st October 2015.

Under the Consumer Rights Act you have a legal right to reject goods that are unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described and get a full refund - as long as you do this quickly.

This right is limited to 30 days from the date you bought your TV, 4th Feb. After 30 days you will not be legally entitled to a full refund, but you still have the right to a repair or replacement.

So you need to act now before that 30 day deadline is up. Use the tool on this page from Which? to generate a letter to send to Very:
http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-righ...faulty-product

Edit - I note that this TV is £519 from Very. With the full refund you could buy it for £429 from Richer Sounds with a 6yr gtee: http://www.richersounds.com/product/...y-kdl43w755cbu

Don't call my advice not very helpful.

I said they'd be better off swapping it for another model.

All you are doing is duplicating what I and Winston have already said.

Update: The helpline that is provided turned out the be run by Shop Direct themselves and not by Sony. The TV was returned and refunded and I got a Panasonic TX-40CX680B as a replacement and one week later, the Panasonic has a fault where the screen flickers once or twice a minute. It seems to be a common fault with that particular model so my TV doesn't happen to be the only one with it. I phoned Very about it and they've passed me on to the Panasonic helpline which is ran by Panasonic themselves but they are closed until Monday at 09:00.

Sorry to hear about the 2nd TVs fault, it really is a lottery as to whether you get a good TV or not. Although you should always search the net for any model you are considering buying.

Hopefully they'll replace this one as well.

I only went for the Panasonic as it had generally good reviews from sits like What HI-FI. I have a feeling that it will only get repaired.

Stop messing about with Panasonic. As stated further up your contract is with Very. If the TV is faulty get them to replace or refund it.

You have obviously not read about all the awful Panasonic problems discussed on this forum, AV forums and Boards IF. A quick recap certain models don't work properly on ITV HD due to Panasonic not designing them to operate properly with all the possible parameters used on DVB-T. Panasonic are trying to blame it on ITV even though other makes don't have the problem and have so far refused to do anything about it. That amounts to AWFUL customer service and has put me off Panasonic for life.

I was under the impression that only the satellite version of ITV HD was affected. The Freeview version is OK. So it is a DVB-S not a DVB-T issue.

Chris, you should know better than to let facts get in the way of Winston's prejudices

So plentiful, that as a repair centre for Panasonic sets, we have yet to have anyone come in with this problem at all......
Neither have we had anyone back with issues on the 680 with screen flickering, despite this being one of the best sellers this season.

There is an issue with online forums that if 3 people mention an issue it's assumed to be a serious problem that affect everyone when in actual fact it could be a very small scale issue.

To be fair probably hardly any owners use them on Freesat

Have you actually tried them on Freesat ITV HD? - do they not work?, or are they OK?.

All the freesat set's we have here work fine. The issue is only the older ones apparently.
As far as being used on freesat, it is almost a shock when people ask for it now!
