You don't need to unlock the phone unless you're making a transaction over £30.

But you can't make a contactless payment over £30.

You can (or will be able to) with Android Pay though, provided that the retailer allows it. Same for Apple Pay.

Meanwhile, they've had no problems at all in releasing their own app for Barclaycard to handle NFC payments. So they've managed to lay the groundwork fast enough when it suits them.
That said service has been going for a while and was relatively easy to develop, the other two services as you say are difficult to support. On the one hand you insinuate what I say supports your arguement, then on the other you say something stupid like that. Buddy you don't even have a clue how the backend processes work, yes I can go on about compexities, yet it would be for nothing. Android/Apple Pay to the end user is the same, to Barclays or any other bank it is not, hence why a lack of support from high street banks. Over 1200 banks in America support Apple Pay, less than 110 support Android Pay, around 130 support Samsung Pay. It seems Android Pay is the more difficult one to support...... Although according to the Telegraph Barclays has said no to Android Pay: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...t-android-pay/ Which doesn't tell the full story

Standards ? It sounds like yet another monopoly.
Yet it is consumers who tend to gravitate to one 'convenient' service, making monoplies ever bigger. |

OK, let me rephrase it: which, if any, of the following do you need?
- internet connection, be that WiFi or 3G via data-only SIM - cell phone connection, e.g. Vodafone phone SIM |

You do realise Barclaycard NFC payments operate differently to "tokenisation"? Its effectively a copy of your credit card, where as Android/Apple Pay isn't.
Notice that no other UK bank has bothered to go it alone - and some of them have found the resources to support Apple/Android Pay very quickly. As has been said, Barclays has form here - with their weird way of getting on board with paym. It would not surprise me if they're going it alone here too. Quote:

Android/Apple Pay to the end user is the same, to Barclays or any other bank it is not, hence why a lack of support from high street banks.. Apple and Android Pay, at heart, both use the same technologies - NFC and tokenisation. There will be platform specific stuff around that but they are not totally different things. I'd be willing to bet that the other big banking groups will be on board with Android Pay relatively quickly, and Barclays will once again take forever. Or they'll integrate their own system into their own app, because they can do that with Android "Lack of support"? Not sure the facts bear that one out. Quote:

Also why would they go to the effort of adding their NFC payment method to the main Barclays Mobile Banking app in June if Android Pay is coming not long after?

Tbh I would say that has more to do with Apple's marketing power than actual technical implementation difficulties!

However, isn't just using a contactless card a lot simpler than using your phone? How many buttons do you have to press to make a contactless transaction? - Wouldn't an oldschool 4 number PIN be easier?

When I tried at lunchtime on a £2 transaction, my phone wasn't seen by the reader until I unlocked it (I use fingerprint locking) I haven't tried just pushing the power button though in case the NFC is linked to the screen being on or anything like that. It also seems possible the distinction is that you can have screen locking off altogether if you want, but that would limit you to £30 Quote:
Barclays still also don't support the Cashback cards with Apple Pay despite saying over a month ago they it was coming 'very soon' which then got changed to 'soon'
Still not fond of it though mostly because of the persistent notification it leaves running. I hate persistent notification icons, they add clutter. |

Try again! I added mine at the weekend. It only works with the Visa card though, not the Amex (which gets declined everywhere anyway)
Got a screenshot of it in the wallet? Cause mine just shows the following when I try to add it. http://i.imgur.com/rKHZVau.jpg |

When I set it up, it said my security was okay (I have fingerprint unlocking) so assume the idea is the phone must be on, and unlocked. So if it was off, someone could grab your phone and make payments up to £30.
But battery life is also key. |

Hey
So how does this work? I have added 3 cards to the app, how do I pay with a specific card? Do I get it on screen before I tap? Does using NFC use much battery life? |

It says I need an app or os update (both are up to date). Maybe they accidentally released it for a short time? Edit: sorry, I misread. Thought we were talking about the Cashback card not being supported in the Android Barclaycard app... |

I can't, it won't let me take a screenshot with the app open. But I can promise it says Barclaycard Cashback and I even carried out a transaction with it.

Ah yes, does it write every wake up, or does it write only when it gets a merchant terminal signal?
I guess it is dormant until it senses a reader/terminal. |

We seem to be talking about different things, Apple Pay doesn't have persistent notification icons, that's an Android thing..

Intelligent comments on what is a bit of a difficult situation for the banks.
It ks a different situation to the US where three, the banking system was so antiquated. http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...ge-of-shopping |
