This evening I got the offered an an IPhone 5s 32g for less than half price if I was to go out and buy the 5s 32gb version. The phone has heardly been used as they got the phone as a free upgrade halfway though there contract after they complained about a mistake with there 02 monthly bill and they had and they are now due an upgrade as there contract is now up and are to replace the phone with a 6s.
They said they would delete all the data of the phone and it would be like getting a new phone if I want it.
All I would use to to is get a sim for it and get o2 to transfer my number to the new sim.
I would also need to buy a case and screen protector for it.
I been looking to get a new phone for a few months now to replace my Nexus 4.
Is it worth taking the phone.

The 5s is still a very good phone. Its Apple's 64bit technology and it has 1GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone 5, 5c, and iPhone 6. It is about the same speed as the iPhone 6 but has the smaller screen. It won't do 4G voice calling (VoLTE) as it doesn't have the hardware.

If you do go for it, ensure the current owner has deactivated Find My iPhone in the settings->icloud menu first. They can reset the phone using the erase all data option but that will need a working SIM card to re-activate on the right network (O2 if its locked to O2).

Don't forget you can't use Apple Pay with the 5s - unless you have a Apple watch to pair it with.

Thanks for the replies. I was sort of thinking of taking the phone from them as it seemed good what they was offering as I don't think my Nexus 4 that will be 3 years old come July will lest another year as in the last 7 months or so the Nexus 4 once in a while seems to jam and needs turned of and on again.
Not that I would maybe use Apple pay but I never knew that the 5s could not use Apple pay.
I do also have an IPad Mini 4 that I got back at the beginning of the year. That replaced my 2012 Nexus 7.
Would then think about maybe getting a new IPhone 18 months down the line once I have saved a bit more money.

The iPhone 5C and 5 are using the the 32 bit archtecture and both have the A6 processor. The iPhone 5S has the the A7 processor with the 64 bit chip. I think it's still pretty decent the only thing it doesn't do is Apple pay as it doesn't have NFC but if you pair it with an Apple watch you can utilise Apple pay. It also has touch ID.

In terms of software updates I'd say it will probably get two more major software updates (IOS 10 and 11) however Apple may surprise us as they have done with the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 and support it for longer. It's still pretty snappy today. You can't really predict how it will behave with newer software but it's probably good to go for another 2 years.

Agree completely, the A7 CPU is the big jump for Apple, so they will support it longer than the older A6.

Thanks for the reply. If I manage to get another 16 to 18 months out if the 5s that I maybe getting of them then I will be happy with that. For it will give me more time to save fpr a phone. For as I said I can't see the Nexus 4 that I'm using the now lasting another year.
The Nexus 4 has been a good phone up untill the last 7 months or so but still works 97% fine.

To answer your question, yes, especially coming from a nexus 4, the 5S will be better in pretty much every aspect.

Told them that I will the 5s and will get it from them at the weekend or Monday at latest. Will keep using my Nexus 4 until I get a sim for the 5s and get my number transferred over to new sim.
Guess it good of them to offer me it and give me it for under half price and all the replies from you guys sort of made my mind up to take the 5s from them.
Have started looking on Amazon at cases for the 5s.

Don't bother spending ££'s on expensive branded cases unless your very clumsy and always drop your phone! If your careful with your phones like me then I can get away with using a £5 clear gel case from the local market, very thin and light, protects the front and back of the phone from scratches etc and also adds some grip when holding it, I really don't need one of these £30/40 cases that are bomb proof and adds 1kg of weight to my phone!

Used cheap cases for years and never had a problem, right from the 3GS up to my 6S.

I don't think I could manage with a 4" phone these days. Obviously if you can, then go for it.
