Strand is this show's Shane except not quite as much of a psycho. All of the characters are believable in their stupidity, wouldn't mind if Chris died though.
The Atlanta group had 2 months more experience than this group does and yet they didn't sufficiently make their camp secure, put their camp near a highly populated city and made a host of other mistakes just like this group. Season 6 TWD spoilers:
Spoiler
Let's not pretend here that the characters on this show are more dumb than the characters on the Walking Dead. |

Some interesting points about what we have seen so far in this series.
It is a decent attempt to fill in the gap of what kicked off the Walking Dead world, yet it for me just falls short of revelations or insight into the why it happened. Unless it is to come of course which may or may not be contained in future episodes. I think it was a missed opportunity to miss out a number of days in the first series, suddenly we are fast forward to the quarantine zones in LA at the start of an episode. While I like the initial move to the sea at the start of this series. I feel we are just getting the evolving story of another group from here on in. Enjoyable as this is and one of the attractions of this series, I was hoping for detail or hints of an understanding been shed on the virus in the earlier outbreak. As a previous post has said I was really hoping for a look at what was been done to find a cure, as opposed to just putting people in cages and the military wiping people out on mass outside of quarantine areas we got in the first season. The question of how callous and ruthless this group of survivors are is acceptable, I think it is realistic for the amount of time passed. I know what people mean though, with the viewer fore knowledge of six seasons it is a challenge viewing wise to wind yourself back. That's why I think the scenes with the Headmaster in the School and the Man who ate the dog in the house in front of most of the group was well done in season one, seeing them learn and realise you got to go for the brain. In comparison or not with TWD, it is entertaining enough to watch shame about some missed opportunities. The main reason I will continue to watch is to see more of the World it is set and hopefully some less drab characters introduced. It needs it, Strand and Nick are the ones that stand apart from the others. |

Edit, Yes Nick is English. I also I took a look at the rest of the cast and there's not many American actors/actresses in the main cast/cast.

Just watched the full flight mini-series and I liked the female lead, she seemed interesting so hopefully she will be introduced into the main show at some point soon.

She's meant to be the lone survivor of the flight. Once I saw her and noticed her I had to check if I was right her credits include Neighbours, FTWD:F462 and FTWD Season 2.

As i suspected they only went 10 miles in something like 20hrs, They could be 300 miles away by now.
The episode kept my interest but it was very slow paced, No real discussion of staying or warning the family that the was Pirates in the waters and they need to leave or blackout the windows. |

I thought the show couldn't get any worse, then they add a whiny annoying kid to the boat.

I'm pretty much done with this now, very poor episode again.
Surely people would be more frantic and worried about what is going on and talk about their plans instead of vague conversations and lots of people just wandering off on their own looking moody and not telling people where they are going etc. It is hard to comment on specifics without posting spoilers but absolutely nothing seems realistic in terms of how i would expect people to deal with the situation. An awful show that adds absolutely nothing to the WD story, think i will check back on this thread in a few weeks and if people are saying it is improved i may start watching again but otherwise i won't waste any more of my time with it |

Strand and Daniel are good characters, the rest can get eaten.

So whose lives are our bunch of intrepid sailors going to destroy next?
![]() Ok, the family would have probably all died in a murder/suicide in a few weeks but Nick's Quest for drugs brought things crashing down a lot sooner ![]() Not that bad an episode actually and we get a bit more on the mystery of who Strand is and what he's up to. |

They are just like Rick and co, wherever they go they destroy lives, the family would have happily lived on the island for a while I am sure, but now everything has gone downhill because of a chance meeting with our so called heroes.
It is hard going, but then again so was TWD at times in series 2, I will keep watching mostly for the after programme. |

It is hard going, but then again so was TWD at times in series 2, I will keep watching mostly for the after programme. The whole plot made very little sense - the Island is as good a place to be as anywhere else, arguably better. And it's not like the father was planning on immediately killing the family, the pills were clearly a 'last resort' if they were on the point of starvation or being overrun. You could see that he was doing his best to try to keep the place viable by fixing the fencing around the land border of the station and they'd set up an effective fence and clearing system on the beach. With luck, they could have lasted a long time and maybe figured out a way to whittle down the local walker population (maybe using fencing to funnel them off a cliff) giving them access to even more supplies. Seriously, where do our crew think they are going? They have no real plan (other than Strand insisting on going to San Diego for his own, undisclosed reasons) and it should be clear by now that everywhere is overrun. But they'd rather go out onto the open ocean with few supplies and heavily armed pirates roaming around (who they know are specifically hunting for THEM) and no firm plan, than stay on an Island with supplies. |

Shane would have been a far better leader than Rick who continues to make dumb decisions even after about 2 years of post-apocalyptic experience. The only reason they've made it this far is blind luck. |

Can someone please help me out with the pirate thing?
I have to watch this without subtitles, and my English is only ok. The man that Alicia talked to last week, is he the pirate? How do they know? I liked the episode, but not the people. Strand and Daniel are somewhat interesting, though. |

They only suspect he is because he was weasling a way to finding out where they were, then they came across the boat that had been shot to pieces. So they don't know for certain but are highly suspicious.
Thank you

I've linked to the blog this writer does on the walking dead before now in the walking dead thread, but her FTW blog is just as good.

The man on the radio said 'Its ok we found you' just as a fast boat appeared on the radar.

What a huge disappointment.
I was looking forward to series 2 but boy what a yawn episode 1 was. Poor storyline and all the teenage kids are so annoying. It only started to get interesting in the last couple of minutes. Just hope it improves as the series goes on. |

Yea, there are too many annoying teenagers in this,
Even one would be too many. Sulky teenagers (and babies) are a no go for me in these kind of series. |

Yeah, a visit from the LA Crew is basically being marked for death and disaster just as with Rick's gang - no matter whether you are friend or foe.

But they'd rather go out onto the open ocean with few supplies and heavily armed pirates roaming around (who they know are specifically hunting for THEM) and no firm plan, than stay on an Island with supplies. It was good. It'll improve more when... Most seemed to like that girl from the plane, so it will likely improve once there's another likable character onscreen...and one that isn't hesitent to crack some zombie skulls, too. Some of the episode was weird. They tried making out these people had given up and at any moment they may decide to suicide and take their kids with them, but from my understanding surely the pills were just for a "what if" scenario where they're overrun with no escape so the kids don't have to suffer? Otherwise why would they have bothered keeping the place safe? I see this as our main guys misunderstanding the situation THEN giving the lady false idealised hope as if the boat's next stop is REALLY going to be some safe zone. I mean they're going back to boat that's about to get raided for God's sake (and possibly lead them to this islet, too...) |

The annoying thing about this, and it goes back to S1, was that whilst we always knew the collapse of society was gonna be pretty quick, it seemed to skip showing quite a lot of it, which I always thought was the aim of having a series set during the start of the outbreak/phenomenon.
Thinking back to Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, there were TV/Radio broadcasts that are heard, and which describe things happening, and what people are learning about the newly risen dead. I hoped these series would expand on the kind of elements touched on Romero's films (which the TWD creator uses as inspiration and lore). Its almost as though the people in this know a lot of stuff already, and weren't particularly freaked out by it all. This seems to have gone into S2, which also seems to be brushing over loads of stuff I'd like to see, in favour of following the survivors into what looks like becoming a copy of The main Walking Dead series, with most other survivors being seen as a threat. My missus prefers this to TWD, so we'll stick with it. But this series (S1 & 2 so far) haven't been what I was expecting/hoping for. |
