Ok, so I've now had Sky Q for about an hour, so I thought I'd create a thread whereby we can list things we find different or maybe slightly annoying, in the hope that we can share some common solutions etc..

So I'll start with mine:-

1. The menu is too 'heavy'. One touch button depresses on normal sky HD now take a button or two extra i.e. Accessing your recordings, left button to go to previous channel

2. The Bluetooth remote touchpad is far too sensitive, meaning trying to scroll through channels can often result in pausing the current programme by mistake.

3. The range of the wifi signal is not as good as it was with the old hub, even with main box and mini acting as supposed extenders. The streaming to the mini box however doesn't appear to be impacted by this, I've got a one bar signal upstairs and there are no issues with live tv or playback.

4. Scrolling through channels is noticeably slower, as a thumbnail picture and programme description are displayed by default. Wish there was a way to turn this off.

5. When scrolling through channels using the select keypad the down arrow now goes up the channel numbers and the up arrow goes down the channels numbers. This is particularly annoying as the channel up and down buttons work in the old opposite correct way. These buttons no longer interact with each other either, as you have to press select first to get the up/down buttons to function.

6. Searching on demand box sets is appalling. You're forced to scroll throug all earlier episodes to get to later ones. There must be a way of skipping to the season you want?

1. The new menu system is designed to get you through to the content you want to watch the quickest, whether that's on demand, recordings or live content e.g sport menu. As posted above the sky button will get you straight through to recordings. I do think that the menu on start up needs to be an option though rather than default.

2. I didn't get on too well with the new remote to start with, but now after several hours use I wouldn't dream about going to the other remote. You will get used to it. Took my Mrs about 10 mins just to find how to scroll, but even she has mastered it now.

3. I have found that wifi has greatly improved with the new hub and hotspots! Have you checked your settings in the engineers menu? I have enabled power line and it is working well.

4. I would say that channel scrolling is about the same speed if not faster than my previous box. The live channel pic in the small box on the egg is set on a second delay so ensure that you can quickly scroll through everything without waiting for it to show the channel live. I find mine if working great.

5. Just doubled checked this, mine seems to be right way round e.g on 101 an up press will take you to radio channels and a down press will take you to info for 102. Have you installed the latest software onto your boxes?

Hmm just tried this and mine allows you to select the series you want so you don't have to scroll.

Click home, then sky box sets and then select the series e.g walking dead and then before you can even get to scroll through the episodes you have to select what series you want

He is not talking about the main TV guide it's backwards on the mini guide/banner thing, it's completely backwards and annoying because it's even the same on the minis with the standard remote which makes it more unnatural than with the touch remote.

For shows that aren't classed as box sets you don't get the option. Try searching for the latest episode of Peak Practice. The only way I've found to get it is using the general search, and this just offers on demand with no way to get to specific seasons without scrolling through all previous episodes first.

Exactly. Pressing Up goes down and pressing down goes up. This really is annoying.

How can I feed this back to sky?

I was referring to the mini "select" box that pops up at the bottom of the screen. I didn't even notice this and naturally adapted to it based on the little arrows that are on screen. I have got used to it and I think it is more natural.

Remember this isn't Sky+

But it contradicts the way the ch+/ch- buttons function.

I've noticed a lipsync issue when playing back a recorded programme and exiting via keying in a channel number to go back to live tv. When you back to the recording the programme intermittently you get lipsync, and you have to exit playback and go back in again to play it again before it plays properly.

Can I just check I've understood you correctly. When currently playing back a recording, you then type in a channel number which stops playback and takes you to that channel. If you then go and resume the original recording you experience lip sync issues intermittently and the only way to cure it is to stop playback and start playback again?

Does this happen on all boxes or only a specific one such as a Mini or the main Q box?

Is this only on recordings from live TV or does it occur on downloads as well?

How are you resuming the recordings? From Recordings or MyQ etc?

What "Software Version" are your Q boxes running, you can find this at Settings > System Info

What is the make and model of TV your Q box is connected to?

As well as sorting the backwards scrolling through the mini guide, I would like to see them make the back button (I don't know if that's what it's actually called but the one to the left of the home button) to act like the back up button on Sky+, so when you are watching live TV it currently does nothing make it so it will take you straight into the TV guide.

And also the i button it's only feature currently is to bring up the mini guide while watching a programme but pressing it again doesn't take it away, it sounds petty and bone idol but you have to move your finger to the back button to get rid of it, instead of just pressing it again to remove the mini guide like on Sky+.

Someone pointed out above q is not Sky+ but somethings just make sense and there is no need to change for the sake of changing and would just make the experience just that bit more ehhm fluid no pun intended.

Yes. It doesn't happen every time I do it, but it certainly did it twice on two different shows I watched last night.

Only seen it on Main Q box, not really tried on other devices.

Only happened on recordings so far.

From Recordings, pressing the Sky button.

Not sure as I'm not at home, but it was installed yesterday and the engineer did 2 software upgrades during the install, so I'm assuming the latest version.

SAMSUNG UE50JU6800 Smart Ultra HD 4k 50" LED TV

Does anyone know how we can feedback these issues to Sky, is there an official mechanism.

I've raised some of them on the Sky Community Forum, but structure's a bit all over the place with no seemingly obvious place to report feedback.

No doubt the sky surveys will start to arrive on your doorstep, that will be the main source of feedback they collate.

My issues, although not game changers, are a bit annoying.

1. You can't pad the start and finish recording times anymore so lets hope the programmes don't overrun!

2 No way to set up manual recordings so you have to record the whole programme and whizz through to the bits you want. Annoying for the footie where I prefer to miss the 45 minutes of chat before the game, but really annoying if you want to set up a weekly automatic record for something that doesn't have a series link, (e.g. The Archers on Radio 4, 10:00am to 11:15am each sunday).

3 The Sky Q android app doesn't work on rooted tablets. I would have thought that would have meant the vast majority.

4 No way to find out signal strength anymore.

5 Box runs hot and fan noise is audible if the TV is off.

6 We have resorted to using the mini remote until we master the main controller, which is so sensitive.

7 Neither controller, mini or main, will enable full control of my TV. While they switch it off and on and adjust the volume ok, they won't allow you to change channel if watching freeview and we have to rake out the old tv remote. They are using the same codes as worked fine with the HD remote so I don't know what the problem is.

Hopefully lots of things for future software updates, (I hope!)

1 I presume it just does the auto start/finish feature, with 2 minutes each side, if the program overruns, hopefully the EPG gets updated anyway, same as now with Sky+.

2 I have always just started the program 40 minutes in (or whatever, depending on how much there is, as I know the show start time, and the kick off time).

3 As you can watch live and recorded TV on it, that makes sense, as you can't with Sky Go either, as well as other TV apps.

Under settings\network connectivity\more info

Strength doesn't really affect the viewing really. It's a quality signal that's preferable.
Mines 90 and 90 but my cable is only 3 weeks old.

If your cable is old and battered the strength will be lower.

How do you pause TV on one mini box and resume on another. I can't work that out.

(PS You can turn of your mini box with a press of the off button - press and hold to turn off the TV)
