Maybe the spiders were having a walk lol

Thank God I was not able to get Sky Q - as having no Sky BB / chose not to as yet anyway after consideration.

If it is only designed for trendy youth who never watch live TV any more so do not need a decent EPG or easy access to anything other than on demand stuff you can watch via your smart phone, then I will stick with old fashioned Sky + HD.

As that quite easily and conveniently lets me do both.

I think Sky might have to let you have BOTH old and new boxes together before I will give up the 'luxury' of the simple to operate Sky system.

Sky HD has been such a success and can be used by 90 year old grannies and 9 year old kids because of its smooth use and simplicity.

The posts on here so far are starting to suggest to me that you really need to be of a certain age and socio-economic group to really want and appreciate Sky Q.

They have certainly made me much less likely to 'upgrade' than before.

Not belittling the system as I can see it will be an asset to some and might also be the only way to access UHD/4K. Just saying that there are going to be some Sky customers for whom I think this might be a step into the future too far and if it strips away some of the advantages of the current Sky HD set up might not be for them.

I have just had the sky engineer back at my property.
He just can't get two of the mini boxes to hold a signal.
At one point he had 3 boosters running between the sky silver and the mini box.
Still no joy. He left unable to resolve the issue.
I am expecting a call later, but I have taken 2 days holiday and still only half my tvs work.
I really like the Sky Q box. Its not for the young at all, but there are a few features that need to be ironed out - which is of no surprise for any new product.
However, not having a picture is not something that I can live with.
I get 14 days to cancel. I am on day 7 or 8 depending on how you count.
I will probably need to do that later today. This should be ok since I am cancelling Sky Q and not Sky itself.
I am a bit miffed that the original installer took away my quad lnb. So i'll have to talk to Sky about getting another one of those.
I'll let you know how I get along.

It does take a little getting used to, and there are one or two oddities with it, but overall it is just as easy as the old SKYHD and certainly far more versatile ! Picture quality seem bettter too

Just noticed that whilst you're recording 4 shows, you can't also record the 5th that you're watching live.

Observation, but not an issue, I presume.

It did - I would guess a limit on the amount of concurrent access to the hard drive. In any case I certainly wouldn't consider it to be a "teething problem" since it was part of the documented specification from the start.

Very unlikely

If you can live pause the 5th channel you must actually be recording it. No technical reason I can think of why the time shift buffer can't easily be converted to a permanent recording file (It can be recorded on a freesat - freetime box).

Reading some of these problems it does make me wonder why some people just went out and blindly ordered SKY Q, what was the rush to get it, why not wait and see what problems it has/had and maybe get to use it elsewhere before getting it.

As far as I can tell, it offers nothing that the the old system offered (yet), just some integrated online features.

Thanks - I appreciate that news.

Will only consider it when UHD arrives - though - as for us that will be the major extra we would use.

So depends on confirmation of no extra cost per month for that and an idea of what coverage and content is being made available.

As we have Netflix (via Virgin) in order to go all Sky Q then that would need to be available too. Which appears not to be a priority for Sky - reasonably enough I suppose - but in UHD terms it will possibly cost them customers if they ignore it.

It has been confirmed in the Sky Forum FAQ page - http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Sk...Q/td-p/2425557

What will the additional charge for UHD subscription be?
There will not be any additional subscription charge for viewing any UHD programmes when they are available, they will be included in Sky Q Silver subscription bundle.

Fair enough - I'd forgotten that the "live" tuners could be live paused on top of the dedicated recording tuners so as you say they must all be capable of accessing at the same time. Guess it is just a fairly arbitrary decision as to how the various tuners behave then.

I'm assuming you will be purchasing a new 4k TV for Sky Q and it's 4k service, choose the right TV and it will come with Netflix 4k app, as far as I know it is only available on smart TV's at present, no need to wait for Sky, even if it did arrive, there's no guarantee it would be 4k compatible.

Compatible devices......

In my case my 2TB Pace Sky+HD box broke and Sky wanted me to pay £249 for a DRX895 so I saved myself a bit of money.

In that case you should have said you were going to cancel Sky, they would have sold you one for £50, they did for me.

Got it installed on Friday. Would agree with the over sensative bluetooth remote and I wish there was something that could have replaced the scart so I could plug my Archos 5 or DVD recorder in to it. There is the right now unusable HDMI port. Can't record any Sky shows on other devices now. I'm sure this is a deliberate action on Sky's part !

The Mini units have a AV out socket (3.5mm socket).

For us, it means we can get multi-room services without having to have cabling drilled through our bedroom wall. We can also move the box around to the lesser used kitchen TV if needed again without having to have cabling put in. We had Now TV boxes for the two TVS and were paying £7 a month for that, but now we can get the full gamut of sky channels including our movie channel subscription plus planner etc. It's costing us £7 a month extra from our old cost, so the same as we were paying as we've cancelled now TV. Also being able to Airplay to the bedroom mini box is great and means we now don't need to shell out for a dock of some sort to play music in there (only had our radio alarms before).

Also the launch came in a no council tax month, so we used the saving from that to cover the installation costs.

Oh, and we've had no problems whatsoever with it! We've even had broadband issues due to our local exchange having a fault and the mini has stilled worked perfectly!
