Unchained Melody
Caxton
07-04-2002
Recorded by many artists over the years, Jimmy Young, The Righteous Brothers, and Robson and Jerome are some that spring to mind, Unchained Melody has now been recorded by Garth Gates and it must be the very worst renditioning of that song I have ever heard. His voice is weak and misses the notes, at least he did on Top of the Pops on TV the other night. Still anything gets to No 1 these days.

It's a wonderful version. didn't see the Top of the Pops performance so can't comment on that but the single is fantastic - best version yet in my opinion.

i don't particularly like gareth i was rootin for will all the way, i also don't particularly like this song, i think another song as a first single would have been better, an original one to him would have been better for a 'pop idol' . His voice annoys me on this song. thats my opinion anyway.

i like this song, not this version though its too sappy and too weak, i prefered the version by the righteous brothers, that to me is the best version.

As for number one roll on the Sex Pistols "god save the queen" or do you think with regards to recent events it won't be released?

it'll definately be released but I don't think it will sell wellas it is rather old hat now and the young won't be interested in hearing music from a 25 year old band (equivelant in 1977 of music from 1952!!!)

why are all these people doing cover versions? can they not put some words together and record a decent song. i saw that performance on Top Of The Pops the other night and it was dreadful. i know he can sing but something was really wrong that night

You surely do not remember his pop idol threads or otherwise you would certainly know he does have the hots for GG.

For the record I think GG is just so overrated it is untrue his pathetically weak voice just makes me cringe.
I can't wait for 18 months from now when he is playing Butlins so I won't have to listen to him anymore, and what has happened to his stutter? I havent heard it at all since pop idol finished. "I want to help people less fortunate than myself" - my arse! "I want to line mine and sugar - daddy Cowell's pockets as much as I can" more like.

Well, at least he's not number one anymore.

Is this the first time this year that some kiddy pop group/singer has not been number one?

my knowledge of the charts is very limited these days but wasn't George Harrisson number 1? Oasis aren't the first.

how did Nickelback do in the UK. they got number 1 over here

I hope it does get to Number 1, Punk music is really popular these days along with Nu Metal, plus older anti roayls ppl and sex pistol fans might go and buy it. I hope it does well!
I'll come to disney with u if u buy it GG

Back on thread...

I heard this song on the local radio in our leisure centre the other night whilst getting ready for a game of squash.

What an absolute pile of cr*p. Jeeeesus. Every musical cliche under the sun; music by numbers. I was busy thinking what a cr*ap record it was when the dj announced it. Is this what modern popular music has come down to? Is this the best that the hit parade can give us. Strewth.

Mind - people buy it. Still - people buy The Sun...

Good shout C

Unchained Melody by Gareth wotsisface is without doubt the worst version ever released. Bag of shite.

I've never like Gareth's version of Unchained Melody. I saw the version that was on Top Of The Pops and he was so out of tune, but I think it might have been a worn backing track and he was miming.

I have also noticed about Gareth's CD Single is that track 2 and track 3 are Evergreen and Anything Is Possible (the same two tracks sung by Will, but with his vocals on them). Looks like poeple have been ripped off again. Paying £3.99 for one song.

Wasn't Beddingfield last year? And i think the other one was Robbie and Nicole.

Ok, so i exaggerated about Oasis being the first this year, but it's the first in a long time. 12 weeks to be exact.

My god the charts are crap. They should ban covers from being released imo. There are very few cover versions that are done that are any good, and those are by proper bands who actually play their musical instruments.

even my 13 year old daughter has admitted that it's not a very good song (shes not aware of the other versions, but cr*p is cr*p even to a pop idol devotee)

By the way, the best version without out a doubt was by the Flying Pickets !
