cats and toilet troubles

In July last year a stray cat adopted me, we took her to vets see if she was chipped or anything but no luck, anyway we found out she was pregnant and had a month left, anyway cut a long story short we kept her and her three babies.

The babies are nearly 6 months old now but still will not use the litter tray properly, we have 4 trays one for each and clean them numerous times a day, we spoke to the vet and she said don't use litter as they might not like it, so we have 2 trays with litter and 2 with them puppy training pads in, we have put the pads also under the trays to protect the carpet as they keep going toilet on the carpet, we have scrubbed the carpet but again they still go there, they seem to go everywhere except there trays, the mum uses the litter tray but the babies go through every extreme to claw up the pads and go on the carpet.

My problem is I am due to move house in a 2 weeks and had all new carpets down and worrying my head off they are going to ruin them within the first day, I have had wooden flooring down In one room where I will put the litter trays but I really don't want them doing there business on the new carpet.

Has anyone has this trouble before? they are so well behaved for little ones except for toilet issues.
I have had cats for years but never come across anything like this before, they are eating well and not distressed or anything.

thanks in advance

no, not really - sorry

kittens are supposed to learn from their mothers but if the mother is using the tray...........

all i can suggest you do is just keep putting the kittens in the litter tray and hopefully they will learn............. time consuming I know but its all I can suggest that you do

have you tried changing to a different litter in the trays? maybe they dont like it?

urine smell is very difficult to get out of a carpet and once a cat pees there they are more than likely to keep going back to the same spot - they can smell it even tho its been cleaned

citrus spray might help, cats dont like citrus fruits so perhaps spray that where the kittens have weed in an attempt to deter them from weeing there

try a different litter tray possibly - the dome ones might be better but then again its more expense.............

I remember when our cat was injured, during its recuperation time she was kept in a cage, big enough for her and the litter tray. So no option but to do the dodo in the tray. If you don't have a cage laying about the place, could the kitties be kept in the woodenfloor room with all the litter trays until they've use them

The Beast was a shocker for pooing everywhere but his tray as a kitten.

I mentioned it mum, and she said to put his feeding bowl next to the litter tray.

Worked like a dream.

The advice is to keep litter trays and food dishes apart.
And I've heard of cats not using the litter tray if the food dish is too near.
Are you saying your cat didn't use the litter tray until the food dish was put in close proximity to it?
That is a new one for the books!

You can't have them going on the carpet or people will say your house stinks of cats.
I would just keep them somewhere like a utility room with lots of the trays, maybe with different litter in each and see if they used one or other of them.
They should be neutered by now and they may be the sort of cats that prefer to go outside anyway. So maybe when you move you can get them used to outside and problem solved.

Well, I will find one of these books, if you could give me an ISBN number and I'll read it to the Beast.

We can chuckle together over how we were so wrong.

As I said it is a new one for the books - so new, you had better write it.
