New iphone question
If you buy a new contract iphone I understand it locks to first sim inserted, yes? that seems to be the information provided by phone shop in question.
That being true you could buy a ee contract say and insert a 3three sim to which it would then be locked to, am I right so far? Which network would you subsequently have to contact to unlock phone, given I would have contracts with both? Of course I may be way off here so please correct me if so. |

You would contact the network that is it locked to, so in your example it'd be Three you need to speak to as it's their lock.

As I understand it you are incorrect with your understanding.
if you source the iphone directly from a network (except three or giff gaff) - it will already be locked to that network. if you source an iphone from carphone warehouse it will lock to the first sim used. I have seen many reports where if you purchase from carphone warehouse and put in a different network sim from the one purchased with the iphone you will have a very difficult time in getting it unlocked. I would be very reluctant to do this if I was you as I think you will be in for a world of pain. Someone please correct me if I am wrong |

Then you're asking CarphoneWarehouse/Currys - and if you went to an Apple Store (or apple store online) you can get an iPhone that does not lock - probably for the same price.
This phone will be for my son and as my other half has an ee sim presently she will have the sim and the phone can be used on three. The price of the contract is £24.99 a month for a 6s with £50 up front. As she pays £21 now anyway for a slightly worse tariff it means the actual phone is costing less than £200 in reality. Provided of course this first sim lock does mean a three sim can be inserted. I just want to be sure I've not missed anything here. |

A lot of hassle - is it that much of a discount over apple.co.uk ? |

Yes, but what about phones locked to Three that are 'unknown' ? i.e the OP's original question, there will be no evidence of it being locked on their data base
3 doesn't necessarily need to know if a phone is unlocked or not - they can ask the device manufacturer as part of the process. |
