Ipad advice please!
Hi,
I hope some of you knowledgeable types can help me. My daughter got a new I pad mini for Christmas, but is yet to use it! She has loads of photos on her old I pad mini and it is taking her forever to delete photos because she doesn't want to transfer them all over because they take up too much space. Her Icloud is nearly full and she doesn't want to transfer them straight to her laptop because she has a problem(!) with it (she says). I hope this makes sense because I'm not at all technology minded and this goes over my head, I'm afraid. Does anybody know if there is a solution to this? I thought of putting them on a memory stick and she could delete them at her leisure, but I have been told there isn't a way to transfer to a memory stick. Could she download them onto my computer and then transfer them straight onto a memory stick if she doesn't want us to see what is on there? Any information or advice is gratefully received. I want her to sort this out as I am waiting to start using her old I pad (of course there is an ulterior motive for wanting advice). Thanks very much. |

She could get a Dropbox account.

Transferring them to her laptop would be the best solution as at the moment it appears that her photos are vulnerable to being lost forever should anything happen to her old iPad.
If that's out of the question then an extra 50GB of iCloud storage is 79p per month and should be ample for anybody's photo library. Another option might be to use Air Drop to transfer them directly from one device to the other. I'm not too sure how time consuming that would be as I haven't used it that much and I'm not sure if you can transfer photos in bulk. |

Getting an iPad with more storage might have been a good idea. However, the 79p a month iCloud option is the easiest solution.

Thanks for the replies. I think that we'll probably go with the 79p a month iCloud option.
We thought that getting the 64gb iPad would be sufficient, Stig. We obviously underestimated how much "stuff" teenage girls acquire. I now feel as though her old iPad may soon be mine! Thanks a lot, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

In the end she is going to have to start deleting stuff though. |

I only buy SD cards and USB sticks from Amazon themselves, not Amazon marketplace sellers. There are just so many fakes out there. |

It matters not whether you have an iPad, android tablet, digital camera mobile phone, computer or any other device that stores photos or any other type of data the only way to ensure it stays safe is to back it up somewhere. Ideally you should have at least two other copies with one being kept off site. Yes it is a pain in the proverbial but if the data is worth keeping you need to do it.
In the case of an iPad or other iOS device then the simplest and first method is an iTunes back up, this will enable you to restore the whole thing if it goes wrong or simply transfer all settings and data to a new device if you upgrade. |

iTunes is the easiest. Dropbox is an easy way to get pictures to & from an ipad. Regardless, they need to be backed up away from the ipad.
