Cat peeing indoors
CBFreak

My cat has never taken to a littertray yet I know he knows how to use one and what it is for. He just has always preferred to toilet outside in some of his favourite spots.

It's never been a big issue until recently he was very ill with a serious bladder infection a couple of weeks ago. He's been to the vets (which cost me a lot) but seems his old self again. APART from the fact he has decided to pee indoors on occasion. Now I had to keep him in for a week or so whilst he was recovering and on medication and he did use a litter tray a couple of times but mostly chose a spot nearby (which I have since cleaned up mind) but I have noticed today in particular he is choosing to whizz indoors, and not just the spot he chose when he was still recovering, and this despite I have had the window open for him.

He is not distressed when he does it and the normal amount is coming out but I'm wondering and hoping it's just a behavioural thing from being kept in. Any suggestions to curb this sudden behaviour change?

Note: I've also put him on a purely wet food diet since the vet suggested dry food might have been a partial cause to his bladder issue.

I would also consider taking him back to the vets but as he is well in himself now I can't justify the costs in case he does get ill again.

The first thing I would do is break this habit of whizzing indoors to do a wee. That means restricting access so your cat has to go outdoors - and this could start a pattern of more acceptable behaviour. I've read that many of our cleaning fluids imitate the smell of animal urine which is what is attracting your pet to the area indoors.

Our cats preferred to go outside too and I kept an area especially for that purpose.

How are things now as it's been a little while since you posted?
