There is no difference whatsoever between fruit sugar (sucrose) and refined sugar; it's simply that the refined sugar enables you to add far higher levels than you would find naturally. Drinking a litre of orange juice is also very bad for you, because of the unnatural concentration of the sugars.
Remember to add twenty tablespoons of granulated sugar to your Nutri-Bullet smoothie if you want to replicate the taste of those bought in the shops. |

This is just not true at all. There's a very good explanation here:

Refined sugar is err refined and natural sugar is err natural. The poster I quoted seems to be saying that eating an orange is as bad for you as eating a chocolate bar which is simply not true.

Sugar is sugar and the sooner people realise that the better. Just because it comes from a natural source doesn't mean it's better for you.

Sugar is sugar. It's fact. Drinking a smoothie is only better for you due to the other health benefits fresh fruit drinks bring. The sugar content is around about the same as a can of coke or there abouts, doesn't matter if it's natural sugar, sugar is sugar. So the first point is not nonsense at all. I mentioned nothing about chocolate. The argument is over drinks. To get a glass of orange or smoothie you would need a lot of fruit which would then bring a lot of sugar. You'd be best eating a orange over drinking a glass of orange which would take 2 to 3 oranges to full the glass.

You're missing the point. The sugar in fruit is not the same as refined sugar. It's natural. As I said in the post above you don't see overweight monkeys and other animals where friuit is a large part of their diet. You'd have to eat a ton of fruit to overdose on the natural sugar in it. The only thing I would agree with you on is it's better to eat the actual fruit then drink it in juice.

I'm not really clued up fruit as I don't have a huge amount but I should probably have more and I'd prefer to drink it really. |

Are you talking better as in the general benefit or better sugar wise? Surely if you have the glass of orange which contains 3 oranges then you've had 3 of your 5 a day which is better than eating an orange and having 1 of your 5 a day?

Seriously. You honestly think natural sugar found in fruits and veggies is the same as cheap refined sugar in fizzy drinks and sweets? Unbelievable. Answer this, do you ever see fat monkeys in zoos? They have a diet consisting largely of fruit. You see fat humans though. Most of whom have a diet of processed crap.

Once a nutritionist pal explained to me that natural sugar was going to make me put on weight just as much as refined, if I had too much of it, it truly opened my eyes.
I used to drink a lot of fruit juice and smoothies. thinking they were healthy. Now I only have a small glass of fruit juice every now and then and I am careful what ingredients I put into my blender for my smoothies. I don't put much fruit in it, and pick the fruit with the least amount of sugar and top it up full of superfoods and protein. |

Fruit has tons of natural sugar in it. A glass of orange would take 2 to 3 oranges to fill up hence why you'd be consuming tons of sugar in one drink. It would be best to eat one orange which would probably fill you up just as much. I might be wrong but a glass of orange would only be 1 of your 5 a day even if it includes 3 oranges.

What is this magic sugar in fruit then if it's not like the other sugar?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...doughnuts.html Telling quote: 'If you're shouting at the screen "But it's a fruit juice", then you've got it all wrong... It doesn't matter where the sugar comes from. It matters that these sugars are pounding your liver without the fruit's natural fibres, which usually act as a barrier to stop the bombardment.' |

To be fair I actually have seen a fair few fat monkeys too. This guy's no athlete: http://fatnewsfeed.com/wordpress/wp-...an_auttg_2.jpg Quote:
Only if eating I believe. Can't remember the reason why but I'm sure it's correct.
