anyone had something similar ?

On my desktop, I'm showing 10,0002 songs in my iTunes library, but only 9.996 songs on the phone (128gb 6s).

I've restored the phone and re-synced it but it hasn't changed anything - the totals don't match up. I've even forced a re-check of sorts by manually updating the entire library with a BPM entry, that i've then removed, but that hasn't done anything either.

Got no podcasts, books, tv shows or films on it either - just music.

I'm wondering it it might be worth pulling off all the songs manually with a third party app, combining them with my current library and then re-adding it to see what happens. It'll take a while, but I can't think of anything else to try unless anyone has any bright ideas ?.

Cheers

Have a read here...

The iTunes Folder Watch software bit could be the thing you're looking for, after trying the other suggestions.

I've just tried it and it identified 9 tracks that weren't in iTunes, so I added them in and re-synced, but it's still not quite worked. I'm now showing 10,004 on the iPhone and 10,010 in the iTunes library.

I'm starting to think the only way is to maybe manually delete all the music on the phone, then reconnect it and re-sync it that way.

Have you unticked sync all music in itunes and let it delete all the music on the phone and then ticked and done a resync?

I haven't done that, no.

I always get scared doing that, even though i always purposely take a full separate back-up of the library and all of the songs as well

Can't hurt to give it a try tomorrow though I suppose!

Forgot to mention that I actually did try this and it didn't make any difference. I'm showing 10,010 songs in my native library and only 10,004 on the iPhone.

So back to the drawing board !

And just like that, I actually figured it out

iTunes (or more likely me..) had been creating duplicate entries in the library for some of the songs i'd purchased. Once i'd removed them and re-synced, both totals now tally up.

Found a good few other dupes as well which have now gone so i'm back down below 10,000 songs again which is a pain.
