My Samsung TV has this at the very last part of the right hand side.

There are also horizontal faint white lines across the top and bottom.

The software is up to date and the self diagnostic tool didn't cure it, it just gave the information shown in the picture below about contacting them.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=le...qV6oPYxrzIM%3A

Does anybody know if there is anything that I can do without it having to go back?

In addition, the Smart Remote sometimes just stops working at all for no reason.

It sometimes starts again if I wait a bit, other times I have to unplug the TV to reset it so that it will work again...until the next time! (Which makes me suspect it could be the TV as opposed to the Smart remote)

In case it was the remote, however, I tried changing the batteries, but to no avail.

Is this normal?

Unfortunately I doubt there's anything you can do without taking the set back for replacement. I would have expected such an issue to be picked up in the factory - guess it must have been a busy day for them and it slipped through the net!

I feared as much, thanks anyway.

I'll ask them to come and replace it on Monday, but if this TV model has a history of not responding to the remote control without the plug having to be pulled out all the the time, I might just ask for a refund.

Are you sure you didn't go to the greengrocers and buy a lemon?

Beginning to think that I did.

After speaking to Samsung live chat, they wanted me to send proof of purchase.

I explained that it was bought from John Lewis over the internet and that I only had an email receipt. They said that was fine and that I could forward that onto them, which I did do.

Today, i've received an email back saying that they want me to copy/scan the (non existent) paper receipt and send it to them and that it must contain various pieces of information- all of which is on the JL email receipt that has already been forwarded to them!

I've emailed them back to say that if the next email I receive is not helpful, I will not accept a replacement, will require a refund and will use another manufacturer.

Are Samsung CS usually this dense? Unless they're based abroad and can hardly speak English, it's an English name, but that means nothing...

Yes Samsung CS are next to useless. But then again LG's CS are too.

Oh no, I thought that Samsung and LG were the best TV brands!

Do you know what Panasonic CS and TV's are like?

TV wise they are good brands, I'm talking about Customer Services in relation to Samsung and LG.

From what I've heard Panasonic have had issues with capacitors. I've never used their CS. The UHD TV I saw in the shop had a lovely picture though.

I've dropped John Lewis an email too, they won't be open until Monday, so I thought I'd contact Samsung in the meantime for advice. With hindsight this wasn't a good idea...

Don't email John Lewis, that will delay a repair.
You should have Phoned tech support
they are open on a weekend!

for after sales queries on an electrical or technology product, 8am - 9pm weekdays,

Not at all, they are only 'middling' brands.

Panasonic and Sony are the best two makes, although Panasonic now source their bottom-end sets from Vestel (so don't buy the bottom end sets).

i stand to be corrected on this, but my belief is that. Only the CX400 range, CR430 and C300 are made by Vestel, Everything else is a Panasonic TV.

Not aware of any particular capacitor issues with Panasonic. We do a boat load of Samsung capacitor replacements on power supplies on relatively young products. We do carry out powers supply repairs on older Panasonic DVD/HDD recorders but these tend to be a few years old.

That's good to know, I'll probably go for a mid to high end Panasonic next time then.

I like Sony as a make but wasn't keen on their android operating system for their TVs.

My Samsung UHD TV has mild banding, just a bit annoying on panning scenes.

I've installed a LOT of these sets, they have lot's of nice features and options - in particular I like that you can disable all the inputs you don't use from the AV button, including Freeview and Analogue.

I've heard they don't have Picture In Picture yet, but were due a firmware update that would allow it?

Sony and Panasonic are generally pretty equally accepted as the best brands.

No idea, it's not something I have any interest in, but there are plenty of on-going updates
