Premier League Statement: Quote:
"The decision to abandon the Manchester United versus AFC Bournemouth match was taken after the police advised of the necessity to deal with a suspect package. "When it comes to matters of security it is obviously right that Manchester United and the Premier League place the safety of supporters and employees foremost. "The Premier League will seek to rearrange the fixture as soon as practically possible and will advise fans accordingly. "It is always the last resort to abandon one of our fixtures and while we apologise for the inconvenience caused to fans we are sure, in the circumstances, they will appreciate the need to do so." |

We are not talking about a thermonuclear device; they will have assessed the nature of the device, its potential range and the area which needs to be evacuated and people kept safe.

If its so serious, why are the players still inside the ground, considering the ramifications , hearing that it seems like they are still being too casual about it

Greater Manchester Police statement: Quote:
"Greater Manchester Police is working with staff at Manchester United to investigate a suspicious item that has been found at the Old Trafford stadium."
Assistant Chief Constable John O’Hare said: "'We are doing everything we can to investigate this item as quickly as possible, however our priority is obviously to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium and surrounding area. As a result, today’s game has been abandoned and a controlled evacuation of the stadium has now taken place. 'We are awaiting the imminent arrival of military colleagues to come and support us and establish what exactly we are dealing with. 'We don’t make these decisions lightly and we have done this today to ensure the safety of all those attending. I am thankful for everyone’s support and assistance and we will continue to provide updates on this matter as soon as they become available.'" |

yeah, i guess they know by now its not as serious as first thought, whoever planted it there has got what they wanted which is as much disruption as possible though
Again in the 70s I once had the police round at my parents house in Leeds as I had received a package from Germany - I knew no one who lived or was visiting there - at a time when our neighbour, for instance, had received a letter bomb. Police said we were right, it was a bomb. They took it into our back yard in a bucket (I think they filled it with water). Turned out it was a book I had lent to one of my university tutors who had gone on holiday to Germany and posted it back to me from there! |

Equaliser for Stoke against West Ham which sees Southampton take over fifth place for now.

Southampton now up to 5th place! Hoping that Saints and Stoke hold on. Also would be great if Bournemouth defeated Man Utd (whenever that may be).

Tottenham grab a goal back against Newcastle - Lamela. Another goal from them without conceding and second will be theirs. Or, of course, if Villa score at Arsenal...

I can't see Hodgson and other international managers being happy with it being held after the FA Cup final - we're getting very close to the Euros at that point. Admittedly if Manchester United had made the Champions League final they would have had a game on 28th May so if it's played w/c 23rd May there can't really be too many arguments.

I do think whatever is at stake at full times will determine the date of the game

Mitrovic sent off and a VERY bad challenge by all accounts to earn the red card

Not long after eyeballing the ref, Mitrovic - a thug by any other name - gets a straight red for a leg breaking foul.
Commentators wondering why he would do something like that. Have they never seen him play before? |

Newcastle down to ten men with Mitrovic sent off. Is this most improbable of Premier League seasons going to have another twist?

Stewards here definitely saying device, including phone, was strapped to gas pipe. Not confirmed. MUFC say their own security found it. |

Sissoko awarded a penalty for not having been touched in the penalty area. Referee conned by a dive. Newcastle now 3-1 up.
Unfair of me to call it a dive, it was nothing more than a coming together and a rank bad decision by the referee. Sissoko fell entirely by his own efforts in trying to reach the ball. It was not a dive but nor was it the result of contact from the defender. |

Sissoko at it again, gets off a good shot. he is currently the most dangerous player on the pitch. Kane has been anonymous.
