Personally I think it is getting a bit much now as it is with seven, how long before the clubs push for a another whole team of eleven on the bench??!!”

The article doesn't say what the reasoning in favour of this change is. Surely it cannot be that master tacticians such as van Gaal are currently hampered by a lack of choice? After the ham-fisted season he has inflicted on United, I would have thought one of the last things he needed was more choice; but it seems United, along with Chelsea, is pushing for this change.

Well I guess one reason for it would be to have more positions covered maybe? When certain players get injured they don't have a like for like on the bench and end up moving players around, and you'll get a midfielder playing in defence for example. But still, I think it's a little unnecessary - kinda like trying to solve a problem that doesn't properly exist.

Do they have the same number of subs in the Championship ?

I know in leagues 1 and 2 they sometimes struggle to have enough available players when injuries and suspensions kick in

Seven across the Football League, certainly in the League One pit of despair at least.

Just might as well use the whole squad like they do in International tournaments..

That would be going a bit far, the bench would be huge then!

Do you know something? I wouldn;t be so surprised if they stayed even some of the poorer players. More and more players are saying they'll stick with us and help us get back up.

Now I know there are caveats to this and I'm not swearing by it. But the last time we were relegated a number of our first team players left us and we still had the quality to win the championship at a canter.

Obviously I hope these lads have a similar effect but the fact so many players are coming out and saying they'll stay is very encouraging. But there's a long wait ahead to see who will stay and of course, Rafa's not rubberstamped yet

Pretty meaningless stat really as it doesn't reflect how many weeks or matches were missed by, lets say 1st team squad members. For example 59 injuries of a one week duration is less of an impact than say 2 players being injured for the whole of the season. Of course you could take into account the quality of the players injured, but then it becomes a bit too complicated. It would be interesting to see a more meaning analysis. A lot of teams have suffered from a bad injury record this season, so it's difficult for any one team to claim that injuries affected them more than any other club.

Despite their resources, City somehow still have players they can't afford to do without. That's only bad luck if all the backup players are injured too. They need to look at their recruitment.

He's a loyal and proud man who likes to do a good job and works very hard to achieve that. Bit of a control freak but that's no bad thing in this situation. I suspect he just feels wanted and wants to succeed for the fans given a fair crack at it. If Ashley gives him the control he demands, he'll stay and finish the job he started. And good luck to him.

Granted there's been some questionable purchases in the last few years but at times this season we've had 4 or 5 main players out at the same time and any team would struggle in that situation. We've been unlucky in that regard. I still think Otamendi and Sterling in particular will come good next season.

It doesn't excuse the season we've had, in the premier league especially but it hasn't helped!

So, Liverpool are up against the reigning cup holders, Sevilla, who this season have not won a single away game in La Liga and only once away in the Europa League. I love the energy and enthusiasm Klopp has brought to the premier league and I think he will inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 win and entry into the Champions League next season.

Hmm, slight bit of crowd trouble at St Jakob's Park - seemingly because Liverpool and Sevilla fans are unsegregated in one stand.

Heavy line of police moved in to keep the fans apart.

Let's hope that's the last of any reference to that subject.

Yeah, I think that this has a Liverpool win written all over it sadly, I might just try and miss the celebrations though.

I know it's the Final but I still can't get excited about the Europa League......

I'm going to watch a couple of things on normal telly and just flick over every now and then to see the score.......
