Has an international match been played straight after the cup final before?
I get the reasoning that you put forward, but it still seems a really strange time to have it to me anyway, it is almost an after thought, staging it when they have.

Pardew has added 'Everyone's nightmare dad at the wedding' to his CV.

Coming on at 5-0 down to Red Bulls, must have been a tiny slap in the face for him.”

Six million pounds a year is substantially more than nothing.

I'm sure he'd rather lose a cup final than be relegated. But sure maybe you guys will get to Wembley in the play-offs next season or something.

In fairness, he went to his home club which is surely a job he would always want anyway. But yeah, Newcastle fans deluded themselves piling all the blame on to him.

True, but I was more talking from a football and a reputation side of things.

Every time there's a summer tournament there are games arranged where some players are absent due to various domestic and European finals. It's not an afterthought, it's a necessity because of proximity of the start of the tournaments. Even if it had been Tuesday I suspect, like in similar situations in the past, Cup Final participants wouldn't have played - so Sunday made sense to allow more fans to see the game.

His reputation is secure. He's one of the best midfielders in English football history and when people look back on his career in years to come, this stint in New York will be nothing but a footnote.

Exactly, same as for Gerrard. They are both in the top 5 highest paid players in MLS - Gerrard 4th, Lampard 5th, the money will be the big draw, plus being still able to play competitive football beyond expected retirement age for midfielders.

However, they will always be remembered for their time spent here in England, spot on FMKK - these last moments of playing are just the NB on the Biographies.

Strong England side - Hart, Walker, Stones, Cahill, Rose, Dier, Alli, Wilshere, Sterling, Vardy and Kane. Form of Stones and Sterling a worry but we'll see. Also useful to see how Wilshere does in an England shirt again givens his run of MOTM performances prior to his injuries.

This maybe Sterlings chance to play himself into the squad, same for Wilshere

I wonder who drops out of that side to accommodate Roy's captain Rooney, as you know that he will play come the first game, I guess Wilshere.

You hope Wilshere.

Also, Lampard could pull his pants down and have a big poo in the centre circle for New York and his footballing legacy will be untouched here. The MLS is a retirement village that nobody takes seriously.

****ing hell Dele Alli is so good. England haven't had a player like him in so long.

Simple finish from a man standing two yards offside.

Over the top. They have qualified for the Euros beating the Dutch along the way.

It's not like they're Gibraltar.

I know it's only a friendly but this England side moves quickly and looks fresh.

That will have to be adjusted to find Rooney a place though

The standard is pretty dire

My rating or liking of Wilshire aside, where do you think Rooney fits into this side?

Cam Wilshire, Ali and Rooney play together, I don't think that they can, so someone will have to be dropped, personally I think that player will be Wilshere, do you think otherwise?

Yes. Sterling's the one playing for his place today.

Wilshere doesn't play the same position as either Rooney or Alli would for England, as has been mentioned numerous times before.
