It's official.

LOUIS VAN GAAL LEAVES MANCHESTER UNITED

(NYSE: MANU) Louis van Gaal is to leave Manchester United, with immediate effect.

Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: "I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries). He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future."

A decision on a successor as manager will be announced soon.

I was spot on. https://twitter.com/MattHughesTimes/...81191849709569

"Van Gaal will leave #mufc with a pay-off of £4,554,000, plus a £400,000 bonus for winning the FA Cup. Every cloud etc..."
The definition of "failure" in football is often worth an argument or two, but bloomin eck it can be lucrative.

United have been picking the perceived biggest available sweet in the shop since breaking the transfer record twice signing Joe Jordan and Gordon McQueen in the seventies. (£350,000 and £500,000 iirc). Mourinho is a bigger sweet than Van Gaal and so Van Gaal is on his bike.

He will be able to get a pretty good bicycle too!

It looks like Javier Mascherano has agreed a deal with Juve, that would be a good signing for hem, but would leave Barca a short handed at the back, even if I still think of him more as a defensive midfielder, then a centre back.

Thats bad news for the prem, as most top clubs are looking for CB players, and now Barca are

Yeah they have Busquets.

Be interesting to see who they sign at CB. Seems to be quite the shortage available right now.

Ben Turner's been released by Cardiff, so that covers one of those spots for those teams.

As w found out with Herrera, trying to do a deal with them for one of their players, especially their better ones, is not an easy task at all, so I don't think that one is going to be an easy transfer to negotiate.

Not generally how it works though, it's not as if every Man Utd sale involves a wonky fax machine for instance.

That would be a good deal for Barca to make, not too sure how long he has left on his deal in Paris though, I would imagine that PSG would rather keep hold of him.

Only ones where we really don't want to sell the player!

Wages too high. He has a great deal @ PSG earning over £200k a week. Barcelona wouldn't pay him anywhere close to that.

Just wanted to also say that Rafa has gone up in my estimation, in staying with Newcastle, as he could have very easily one would suggest, have left them, and managed in a top division league elsewhere.

So well done to Rafa for that decision.

From Barcelona away to Rotherham away in under a year. Takes some going to do that.

True that, plus going from a team scoring ten goals in a game, to a team not scoring any past Villa, that is some change to get used to!

He's loosely following the path Michael Owen ploughed in his playing career. Fiver on him taking over from Mourinho when the day comes.
