He's not been right all season really, with injuries and the like. He shouldn't be in the squad. (I don't think he has ever been good enough, to be honest)
I don't think Wilshere should be anywhere near the team either tbh

Why on earth are we taking so many injury prone players . One is ok if they're special players but Wilshere , Henderson and Sturridge are just not worth risking imho

Probably because our pool of players to choose from is absolutely woeful.

I would not say Henderson is injury prone, before the injury he was playing in every game

Got to say that was an amazing long crossfield pass from Stones there.

I would drop all the sick-notes. The tournament is too short to be waiting for them to have that one good game that doesn't end in a stretcher.

Henderson has suffered 3 injuries this season, which is a lot over 12 months to be fair. Prior to that though, he had never been injured, so I wouldn't call him prone just yet I suppose.

It's easy to say "drop Henderson and/or Wilshere" but who would you replace them with. Noble? Shelvey? Colback? Cattermole? Rodwell? Mason? All worse.

The perfect riposte from Rooney.

you have to think where Woy is going to play Wilshere though , for me he just seems to be shoe horning him into the squad, Noble and Drinkwater have had decent seasons imo

Noble is horribly average. And the more I see Drinkwater play for England, the more I begin to think that he's been made to look good by being next to Kante.

Which probably seems harsh.

I really rate Drinkwater but he looks sadly out of his depth tonight and that's against a pizz poor Austalian midfield .

Sterling producing a good final ball - he really needs to be doing that far more often - and Rooney reminding everyone of what he can do.

Wilshere should definitely be nowhere near the team, he's barely played all season. Mark Noble had a stellar season in contrast and deserved to be rewarded for his form.

Yet another fabulous long pass from John Stones . I think we are witnessing the rebirth of John Stones

It isn't all doom and gloom for English centre midfielders though, there are some really talented youngsters out there making waves that aren't quite ready yet. Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Chelsea, Cameron Brannagan at Liverpool, Duncan Watmore is another who looks promising.

Joey Barton it is then - sorted

Ross Barkley is coming on . Maybe he's the answer . Could be a spectacular player .

Have to say, good luck to Rashford he looks a decent prospect and he's had an excellent start to his career. He's still incredibly rough around the edges though, half his first touches are poor. I've noticed this in every game I've seen him in (not just tonight). Congrats on his first international goal and cap. Not sure if i'd take him though.

Yep, he's good when he doesn't have much defending to do; let's see what he is made of when up against quality attacks.

Defoe clearly isn't going, and neither should he.
