He might get better offers after the Euros of course, or he might be persuaded to try another season at Everton under a new regime and see how that works out.”

Or alternatively he might not base his career on one upcoming season but rather consider Chelsea or United to be a better bet long term with regards to reaching the CL and winning trophies.

A move to any of those clubs would be a step up for him.

The North West of England and just like it's neighbour Manchester enjoys bad weather and poor cuisine on a daily basis.

I'm surprised anyone comes here tbh.

Koeman's managerial record.

Games - 580
Clubs - 7
Honours - 0.

He will fit right in at Everton.

I knew that the Championship was a strong league, probably the best second tier league in the world, and apparently there are more players from that particular league being represented at the upcoming European Championships, then come from the French League!

That is quite incredible really.

MK Dons are sending the same number of players as Milan. Football's broken.

Koeman's won three Dutch league titles and the Spanish cup.

He won the Dutch league with Ajax and PSV I believe..

And the Copa Del Rey at Valencia...

In other news I see FIFA have been raided again and yet more allegations of paying themselves bonuses have come out.

He has won trophies but the success isn't recent. Obviously the record books will show that he isn't a trophy less manager.

I agree with Batdude though I think it's a bit of a sideways step tbh.

It depends what's on the table. It seems like a sideways step to me too when I think he could be in prime position for the Arsenal job if he hangs on another year but the new investors may make promises regarding bigger transfer budgets or maybe even just a fat salary for him.

Yeah, not really sure how much this new owner has to play with tbh.

Despite all the players they've sold on, how much of the success they've had is all down to the manager or the efficient machine that Southampton appear to be?

The question is how long does someone potentially wait for the Arsenal job, as no-one knows for sure just when Wenger will step down (as I very much doubt he will ever get sacked).

Hard to say. It could just be a very efficient system that's able to replenish the squad with good players after every big sale. They play some decent football under Koeman's guidance though. His reputation is certainly as strong as it's been in a good few years.

As for the Everton owners, I have no idea. I'm just speculating. It seems odd that they're taking so long to appoint someone though. You'd think someone planning to invest in a football club would have a vision of who they were after as manager very early on in the process. I know here going big for Koeman now but before that it was heavily suggested that De Boer was the number one target.

Everton would be good move for Koeman if there is investment in the team. You feel Southampton may be happy where they are but Everton may have lofty ambitions.

If had to choose between Ronald Koeman and Frank De Boer, i would go for Koeman. He has done a great job at Southampton by qualifying for the Europa League for a second year in a row and with the money he would get to spend on players at Everton and if they are able to replace Lukaku, he can get them challenging for a Champions League place

They obviously want to get the appointment right, and apparently have done a few interviews...it might have been initially Koeman wasn't going to be available, but something has changed to suggest he maybe willing...obviously they cannot have direct contact with him, due to him still been at Southampton, and then if he is willing then a compensation package has to be sought out with Southampton.

What gives you the impression that Southampton are happy where they are (not criticising your point, I am just interested to know)??

They have a tendency to sell players........a lot. Its not a bad thing, thats life, but it must be frustrating to see so many players leave even if their replacements do equally well. If Koeman speaks to Everton and they say "We want to keep all our players, but any we do sell will add to your transfer fund, and we are also making £xm available for players too" I could see why that would be a more attractive proposition even if right now Southampton are higher in the league.

Everton are a challenge but the one thing they lacked was money if they now have a bit of cash its quite a decent job IMO.

Fair enough, and that does sound like a very real possibility, and you put forward some good points.

However I am sure that Southampton would want to keep their best or better players, and would far rather not sell them, and would want to progress as a club.
As with all clubs this summer, they will all get hefty amounts of cash to spend, so I don't think that the difference in spending power between Everton and Southampton will be all that great.

It will be if the Everton investors are putting up the cash.

I guess that might or could swing things, but club wise, I don't think that there is that much of a progression for a manager moving from Southampton to Everton.

Yeah, fully agree with this. Everton with a big wad of cash to spend is a tasty prospect for a manager like Koeman.

It depends on how rich this guy is or more importantly how much of his cash he wants to part with.

We've seen more than a few chancers over the years when it comes to investors.
