No I am not saying that. I am saying that not every side Barcelona faces doesn't not press high. Some will some wont.

Just as not every game in Italy is played at a snails pace and is all defensive (Another myth).

Whether it be Barcelona, Bayern or now City Guardiola will face sides where his opponents try and press from the front to stop his defenders playing. His faced it before and like I said not every side in the EPL presses like that anyway. In fact most do not.

I was clearly joking, I think I know what I was doing as I was the one that posted it!

As I say Kompany is an excellent defender, and Stones will (hopefully from an England national team perspective) learn from him, and improve his defending which is still suspect, despite his huge price tag.

Something that you disagreed with!

So you are saying that martinez was a good manager and belgium made a good appointment

and yet saying that stones didnt learn from martinez because he was a terrible everton manager.

Quite inconsistent there!

It's a cracking thought process from the Belgian FA. Their defence was all square pegs in round holes, so who do they call?

Please stop the patronising responses. It;s obvious what you did, please stop pretending otherwise.

It seems we are not going to agree here, you have it set in your mind, and no amount of answers from me will change that, so let's move on.

In Spain, defenders are allowed to receive the ball from the keeper, bring it out and pass it forward. However, in the PL if i were playing against city, i would ask one of my players to hound stones all game, never giving him a second on the ball.

If he doesnt hoof it up field straightaway, you will get at least one error out of him in 90 minutes, probably more.

Most of the successful CBs in PL history are of a certain type. Terry, Carragher, Vidic, Stam, Kompany, even Huth last year.

Stones doesnt fit with them.”

That wholly remains to be seen. The way he sets out his team and has won trophies suggests he likes footballing centre backs and even the best ones he's had can be mistake prone at times.

Why not, I'd imagine he has the same scope as any other 22 year old in world football.

[quote=codeblue;83521415]Stones has played for england 10 times, but he is not an england international. /QUOTE]

He is.

Names please.

I think if you acknowledged his ability proactively rather than being forced into doing so to try and get yourself out of another silly mess, it might read more as a joke than a trademark dig.

All that's being said is its a neutrals thread and you don't always come over as especially neutral. Codeblue has made a post above with their observations about Stones and they are critical but fair, a world removed from "what will he learn from someone who's injured all the time".

Nothing wrong with supporting your club, we all support to the hilt but no point trying to redress the balance after the initial horse has bolted, we all have to balance the plaudits and criticism fairly in this one without having to be prompted.

Pretty good signing for Everton, that.

Knows the league, experienced, solid, and has previously avoided an attempted murder rap.

Got to fear for Swansea, mind.

Bargin and just what Everton needed as a replacement for Stones.

I think Everton will do well this coming season, Swansea on the other hand, well they are one of the teams who I think could be heading for relegation.

Villa have managed to start the season playing even worse than they did last season - which is some achievement!

He will need to be in the running for promotion for November for sure.

If not he will be shown the door

I've got a fair bit of sympathy for Villa fans.

That club has been grossly mismanaged for years.

I'm enjoying it a little. If they drop down to League One quicker than we did I'll laugh my head off, even if they'll get straight back out while we languish here forever.

Why can't sky show these penalty shootouts live?

They appear to be ripe for a Leeds/Sheffield Wednesday-style, multi-year purgatory.

Your mob are paying the price for never appointing Dublin as manager. You can see the pain and longing in his eyes, whenever he's showing us round some run-down, flea-infested, one-bedroom pit in London, with a guide price of £450,000.

He got West Brom promoted from the same division, so I don't think it's a bad appointment on paper. He's inherited a real mess at that club though, it may take a while to sort out.

I think Di Matteo now realises what his taken on.

There is a culture of losing and the players are mentally weak. They probably believe they will lose so when falling behind they are finished.

Any manager with clout wouldn't take that job.

Both the Sheffield clubs, not just Wednesday have been out of the top flight for a while now.

Villa following suit would sadly not surprise me, as unlike Newcastle, there doesn't seem to be much ambition at the club.

Bolton could be what they turn into if they are not careful.
