No relevance as to how he might do this season though

Does Wenger and Klopp know they have to buy a defender in the transfer window

Well he didn't do too badly against Barca, granted that was a pointless friendly, but he still looked very impressive, plus today's goal.

Contender for player of the year may be a bit of a bold prediction but I have faith in the lad.

Klopp has already bought Matip and Klavan. Sakho and Gomez coming back from injury will do a world of good.

I thought Sakho was sent away for discipline reasons??

That's what the media reported. It eventually came out that he wasn't fit during pre-season and was sent home as he was a distraction to the squad and couldn't train. The relationship between him and Klopp is fine.

Although yes, he was late to various appointments 3 times as well. So perhaps his attitude around the training ground could improve a little bit.

Fair enough, it does seem that both sides in that match today, could do with all the reinforcement at the back that they can get.

I expect Wenger will become more interested in transfers after today's result. Liverpool seem to continue strengthening other areas of the squad neglecting the defence.

We signed two centrebacks, and a goalkeeper, so we're hardly neglecting it. Our main weakness is the LB and for some reason we're neglecting that. When Sakho and Matip are fit we'll be stronger at the back, and when Karius is fit we'll have an actual goalkeeper. But the leftback will remain a problem unless Moreno can develop a brain.

Wenger only seems for some reason to be interested in attacking transfers, when for a good few years, their defence has clearly been their weakspot.

4-1 up to end up 4-3, doesn't convince me anything has been sorted yet tbf.

You almost threw that game away today.

It was good value entertainment wise though.

Is it? Arsenal conceded 36 goals last season which was 1 more than Utd and Spurs and the same as Leicester.

You could argue maybe they don't have the depth but when players are fit arsenal have a perfectly fine defence.

Doesn't change the fact that to say Klopp has neglected the defence is ridiculous when he has signed two centrebacks and a GK.

You're seemingly ignoring the fact that we've got 3 CBs and 1 GK on the injury list. The proper time for assessment will be when we're at full strength.

Okay then, I don't quite think either defence even when all players are fit, are that special, but if you do, then fair enough.

Plus the fact that we're only 1 game in to the season!! Now I don't know whether they're decent players but got to be given chance to gel as a unit.

I'm just looking at the numbers. 36 goals conceded over a season is excellent. You can't pin arsenal's problems last year on there defence as the numbers don't lie.

So that's Arsenal, Liverpool & City who don't have a good defence already, who does??

Shall I also ignore Arsenal's missing defenders due to injuries too?

You started and finished the game with your regular goalkeeper unless the injured one played last season and I slept through it all.

May as well just pretend you didn't concede 3 goals too while i'm at it.

Wenger refuses to see the weaknesses in the squad . He should put in a decent bid for Lukaku for starters.

We're not pretending or ignoring anything. Just saying that we haven't neglected our defence despite you saying that we have. Karius will probably be our first choice goalkeeper, but he's injured.

Shall we just pretend we didn't sign two centrebacks and a goalkeeper so you can say we neglected the defence?

We scored four by taking advantage of their defensive issues with players being out, they scored due to some defensive issues, including our leftback who we aren't going to replace for some reason.

The fact is we have addressed our defensive issues by signing two CB, and letting Skrtel go (and Kolo, sadly). Unfortunately Matip, Sakho and Gomez were unavailable. Gomez could play LB when he's fit. Milner was also unavailable and he might have started at LB if he was fit.

I've had longer lunch hours than what players have performed this weekend!
