He isn't going to play if he stays, Guardiola made that clear. Its a big call in general terms to pick a keeper based on his ball control and distribution over his ability to keep the ball out of the net, make saves etc.

Yes, it almost seems a backwards way of thinking really!

Other than the fact the keeper his picking can make saves. It's not like his putting a complete novice who can pass a ball. He clearly believes the strengths outweigh the weaknesses even though Hart maybe better at certain things.

Isn't that the same with every other player?

Hes picking the lesser goalkeeper because he is the better footballer, or more accurately its not so important who the reserve keeper is right now because he wants rid of Hart and will bring in a new man anyway.

A goalkeeper does need more specific skills then an outfield player though, so along with being good with his feet, a goalkeeper tends to need other more position specific skills, which is why it is kind of strange to see a goalkeeper being dropped not because of his actual goalkeeping abilities, but because of his "footballing" abilities.

I think the point is Guardiola does believe his keeper needs to have skills just like the 10 other players have. Like he would see his defenders requiring more skills than just heading and tackling. Thats modern football and unfortunately for Hart he hasn't adapted to these times so is now paying the price.

Oh, okay, now I get what you're trying to say.

I'd count distribution as part of goalkeeping abilities though.

The friendly against Arsenal was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Hart came on and was all over the place conceding 3 goals in quick succession and at this point it probably confirmed to Guardiola he was the wrong man for the job.

Pellegrini seemed to have far too much respect for Hart to drop him.

There was a suggestion on the radio that Hart blatantly flouted Guardiola's instructions in one game by kicking the ball long in several times.

Hart kept kicking the ball long for England thus resulting in a loss of possession, I always thought Hodgson instructed him to do so.

Well, they did promise to so let's hope they keep it up and all the referees are equally brave.

I don't have any objection to it being penalised as long as there's consistency. It bet similar things go completely unpunished in other games this afternoon though.

Sterling back to the Liverpool version - attacking space with confidence but an erratic end product. Well done Pep - if he can improve Navas (or replace him) City could be lethal on the break.

Its amazing to think Aguero can't even get into the Argentina first XI currently.

So Guardiola could win away at stoke. Will this count or does it have to be cold and raining?

Yes that's the thing..consistency. I'm all for clamping down on the ridiculous wrestling and shirt pulling that goes on the the box, but it has to be a level playing field.

Different kind of offence, but I think Stoke should have had a penalty as well. No real attempt to play the ball, stonewall penalty.

If the new rules lead to 2-3 penalties per game then we should be getting 2-3 penalties per game. Stoke were robbed of a penalty.

Makes a change from the obsession with possession under LVG but I agree there is a lack of pace.

Would be great if we still had a Giggs or Kanchelskis in their prime today.
I can't help but think Jose will phase Mata and/or Rooney out as the season goes on to introduce that pace - accommodating Zlatan demands pace has got to be added elsewhere - just Martial's pace is imbalanced. And it'll be a shame if Rashford gets limited opportunities.

It's got to be a wet cold Tuesday night to qualify I'm afraid.
