I understand your point, it's not hard to grasp. It's the way you portray it, with the footballers being 'cheats, the divers, the theatrical poseurs' and so on.

Yes, we're comparing the theatrical exaggerated ridiculous collapse of a player doing his best to con the officials, with players of other sports who have the opposite incentive. That was what I was getting at. You seem to have missed that.
In reality players should have no need most of the time to go down, except that we've reached a norm now where the merest whiff of a touch results in exactly that - flailing arms, barrel rolls, comedy falling over as if shot from the stands. It's been shit for years having to put up with that in the world's greatest game, esp when comparing it with the norm when I grew up watching it when players didn't routinely cheat, dive and attempt to con the officials to gain an advantage and instead relied on their own abilities and guile. Feel free to be cheerleader for the cheats, the divers, the theatrical poseurs who can't stay upright when the easier option is to collapse to the floor clutching the wrong leg or squinting at the ref through one eye whilst clutching the face after being touched on the shoulder. Bunch of cheating gits most of em; it's only the fact that football is the greatest game despite them that I continue to watch. |

Benteke made the most of any contact but he's not to blame. He's been conditioned by modern football to do it. Officials and authority should take more of the blame, I think, for allowing it to get to this point and not doing enough to stop it.

One has to ask why bother watching when you feel this way.
I didn't watch Palace v Liverpool live, nor did I see all of Spurs Arsenal, or Leicester v Watford come to that, and not one kick of WBA V MU. There are better things to do than be glued to every game on the tv, but it would be nice to be able to watch the game without being treated to the spectacle of grown men / professional athletes chucking themselves to the floor when an opponent brushes past them. Pretend it doesn't happen if you like, but that's just condoning theatrical play acting & diving. You might agree with it, I don't. |

'Grown men'
You don't need to qualify a statement against diving with this kind of thing, it undermines your point if anything. We're a few steps away from prima donna territory. |

Because away from these divers and cheats, it's the best sport on the planet.

Hull v Arsenal giving us the unusual occurrence of an English match kicking off at 7.00 to partially avoid a clash with tonight's Champions League games.

"You've only come to see the Arsenal"
The fact that the ground appears to be half empty would suggest that actually, no they haven't. |

Complete gift for Giroud. Quote:
It's of more interest than the 2 CL games too, with Real Madrid as good as through anyway and the Gent/Wolfsburg match-up being more reminiscent of a Europa League tie.

Good to see Liverpool and United putting out what seems to be their best available sides for their Europa league clash unlike Spurs who are deservedly losing to Borussia (ironic if Spurs end up fifth in the league).

Spurs 2-0 down now. Their team selection for this really is an odd one.

Game set and match tie over, losing this by 4 or 5 could really damage team confidence for the rest of the season

Imagine travelling all that way on a weekday just to see your team not bother.

I suppose that it might come down to the two Manchester sides being left in European competition after this round of fixtures.

How did Pochettino explain it? |

It's almost tantamount to conceding you're going to lose the match before it begins, frankly.

With your record I'm almost tempted to put a lot money on Liverpool to win. |

Something along the lines of "I decided to throw the tie so that we can concentrate on winning the league."?
