Liverpool went through that phase around and just after xmas when it seemed every corner that was put in ended up in the back of the net. Quite rightly the defence came in for a lot of stick which included Lovern, Sakho and Mingolet in goal.

Liverpool over paid for Lovern based on one season. He looked better at Southampton than he was by the players around him. He is a good defender on his day and very quick so just the right player at Southampton as they pushed high up the pitch. Liverpool tend to sit back and hit on the counter so his skills in defence are more in question.

Sakho problem is consistency. You just never know what he is going to do which in defence is a real problem because he leads to the other team scoring. Oddly enough Sakho has the highest pass rating in the Liverpool team so maybe he should be playing in midfield to protect the back 4.

Liverpool have a history of having world class goal keepers in the team and certainly Mingolet is not at that level yet. He has good reflexes but very poor command of the box. He is poor at crosses coming into the area and does not dominate the 6 yard box. The reality is if Liverpool want to go for a league title and base it on a counter attack they need a world class keeper.

I don't think many Liverpool fans would disagree with your balanced and rational views. These sort of posts may end up in debate, rather than the inane and/or inflammatory guff posted by some (constantly) on here.

Liverpool have got players that mirror their current status as a club striving for top 4. Some were gambles and/or over-priced as that goes with the territory. Having since recruited a manager with a good European pedigree, however, we may be able to entice a few more off-the-peg CL-quality players previously out of our reach, to add to the quality we already have (assuming we can retain the likes of Coutinho). As Spurs and Leicester have proved, it is possible to evolve a top 4 side from varying levels of quality BUT getting recruitment right is key - and I still think there's an element of luck involved when gambling on unknown players and those who've only just come to prominence (as it's hard to predict whether that's sustainable).

The defence may gave ultimately cost us in 2013/2014 but it's our striking woes (injuries and incompatibilities) that have cost us subsequently in at least competing for top 4. We haven't had a striker hit double figures in almost two seasons so it's a miracle we've not completely nose-dived, suggesting other areas of the team aren't as poor as some would suggest.

A dominant keeper is definitely a must-have.

Why was Mingolet handed an extension? I don't rate many of the Liverpool 2014/15 or 2015/16 signings and Klopp will need to spend big in the summer on quality defenders and strikers and a class keeper.

If it was me I'd raid Stoke for Butland and Shawcross. Attacking I'd be looking at Mahrez, Vardy, Aubameyang, Gotze.

Lovely touch at the King Power Stadium before today's match with the fans flying a banner to wish Leicester's chairman a happy birthday and the chairman giving the fans free beer and doughnuts to thank them for their support this season.

Putting the title aside, Leicester really do seem to be a delightful club in the way it's run with so much devotion to its supporters.

I think Liverpool fell into the trap that a lot of top clubs did whereby they thought that Southamptons success was built on players like Lovern and Lallana only to find that having signed them and watched Southampton not miss them much that it was more a case of the club inflating the player rather than the other way round.

In general Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and City have wasted an extra ordinary amount of money on players in the last couple of years relative to the success its brought them (Chelsea title aside, which is offset by their disaster this season!)

If you're referring to the handball, I don't see how that could have been construed as being intentional as the guy's arm was tucked in and the ball was struck right at it.

Assuming they win the title I would just like it to be on the last day isntead of the players watching spurs drop points in front of the TV. Want to see all the emotion and relief on the pitch.

If you support Leicester it is not a penalty; if you support Southampton or Spurs, it is a blatant penalty.

If they hold on for the win, the end of the season will be pretty anti-climatic, as the only things that could be on the line come the end will be who finishes third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, which is not as exciting as who will win the league, or who will get relegated.

I think Wanyama should have been sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity there; Vardy would have been clean through if he hadn't been fouled.

Leicester look like they're trying to rattle Southampton with some physicality at the start of this second half.

Cannot recall Mahrez having such a nondescript game this season - so he will probably produce another goal of the season moment. Might need to, because Southampton have not given this game up.
