de Gea top class again but should never have been given the opportunity to make the save. Real let off for United.

Liverpool have certainly been praying to the god of jammy penalties.
Still fair play to them for actually attacking and getting into the penalty area, something United seem to have forgotten how to do. Possession gets you nothing |

De Gea to the rescue again. Awful defending from United once more.

As Trevor Francis said, Liverpool should be three up by now.

Smalling was terrific first half of the season - he seems to have fallen back quite a bit since then.
Memphis having a mare both ends of the pitch. |

De Gea again! Liverpool could be out of sight if not for him.

Pure reaction save on that occasion.
de Gea aside, Man Utd have been dreadfully poor. This referee's setting things up to give out a red in the second half. |

Liverpool have been wasteful, giving de Gea too many opportunities to do what he does best. 1-0 is nothing over two legs.

United have been an embarrassment tonight. Even Liverpool have been completely mediocre
One woeful team against a slightly less woeful one |

I really wish Fellaini was not playing for United, not ever. His presence seems the signal for brain dead football.

Best forward move Man Utd have produced all match and it ends with Anthony Martial treading on the ball.
Sums up their night. |

Short term view from them IMO. English teams are struggling to such an extent that there's a risk we'll drop below Italy in the European co-efficient, meaning Italy will get a fourth slot in the Champions League rather than the Premier League.
With a Chelsea side not distracted by Europe, Liverpool under Klopp for a full season and Manchester United potentially not having so many injuries next time out combined with Arsenal and Manchester City being up there - and goodness knows what Leicester will do - the Champions League places will be tough enough for Spurs next year without taking one off. They want Champions League football? Then they should look like they want Champions League football. Europa League success is a way in after all. |

Not been a great game both sides seriously lack quality , whoever gets through would need a favourable draw to get beyond the quarters

The Europa league and coefficient means nothing. They are going for the league. They play an under strength team because they want champions league football won through a high league position.

Why is Memphis still on the pitch - he is easily the worst player on either side, He has the reverse Midas touch, everything he has touched has turned to lead.
