Not sure how anyone can fail to love Borussia Dortmund!
Yep, very classy reception. As long as the hugs are left off the pitch

The whole stadium doing YNWA was epic. What an incredible atmosphere, the presenters looked in a state of shock when they came back on after that, must have been incredible to be there.

Absolutely. They have converted me and they are now my favourite German club. Their singing of You'll Never Walk Alone was spine tingling.

Yeah. Going to try to get to a game there next season.
Now, come on Liverpool, show them what a true European giant can do!

Wonderful atmosphere, not matched by the football which has been fairly shapeless.

Liverpool have done well, but Borussia beginning to move through the gears after 15 minutes.

Excellent free kick from Milner, completely wasted by Lovren

Milner getting through an extraordinary amount of work; cannot possibly keep this up for 90 minutes.

Origi puts Liverpool into the lead; they've been impressive for 35 minutes, Borussia less so.

BD are piss poor tonight.
Fair play to Liverpool, keeping it simple and snuffing out BD slow build up play.

Game has gone perfectly for Liverpool. Borussia have been surprisingly easily contained and somewhat ponderous aside from odd moments. Liverpool deservedly ahead.

really poor from BD. Michael Owen is intolerable though.

Liverpool haven't been great by any means but they're doing what they need to do so far. They're an inconsistent side but Klopp always seems to get them up for the big games.

Sickeningly high number of half and half scarves on display.

Owen seems to have forgotten Seville would be among the favourites to win this again

Very good result for Liverpool.

Clyne is an excellent fullback

Must admit I was looking forward to a much more dynamic, creative performance from Borussia. They were disappointing, but I guess Liverpool deserve considerable credit for that and it is a good result for them. Still wouldn't bet against Dortmund to emerge as overall winners.

Very good result for Liverpool - Klopp probably enjoyed it!

I see the holders are looking good again though.

Massive well done to Liverpool. In a superb position

The "PL is sh1t and so much worse than mainland Europe" hipster brigade won't like that

Dortmund were not allowed to play freely by Liverpool hence their perceived flat, poor showing. Liverpool were organised, defended well as a team and looked to push forward when the opportunity arose (causing Dortmund to not be as cavalier as they'd have liked).

The opposition will inevitably have an effect (negatively or positively) on the way a team plays. It amuses me when fans expect a given team to play at the same level every week seemingly oblivious to the fact that the way the opposition plays, tactically or otherwise, will have a massive bearing on that.

Have to say that was brilliant from Liverpool. Not over by a long shot but any team would be happy with that score and a home leg to come. I think Klopp deserves a lot of credit too because there was obviously a bit of a sideshow with him going back to his old club and it must have been a bit weird for him.

Don't like giving Liverpool too much credit but sometimes you just have to suck it up!!!

Despite not being a fan of either club, I have quite enjoyed the reactions from the "Man City and Liverpool are out of Europe before the matches start" brigade. Glad they've proved people wrong, and it may be hard to stomach if you support a rival - particularly Man United, but English clubs progressing in Europe is what we need!

Good that people are getting behind english clubs in europe now (based solely on this forum) for whatever reason as in the last few seasons club fans seem to have kept their domestic loyalties up when to comes to european competitions and hoping that their domestic rivals get knocked out.

NB. people saying that certain european clubs in top form and with a more impressive recent record in europe than their english opponents and then using that to form their prediction is fair isnt it?

I think it's a "hipster" thing in a way a lot of the time, a sort of "look at me I watch football outside of the PL too". By claiming Dortmund and PSG are the best thing since sliced bread because they exist outside of the PL realm, and not many over here would watch them week in week out, so it looks cooler to talk them up.

From a discussion on here a few weeks back some posters seemed to be pretty much salivating at the thought of England losing the 4th CL spot. I dunno I guess it comes across as a bit "edgy" and "different" to dismiss the PL given it's the norm in Britain and Ireland to automatically follow the PL and a PL team
