I support Liverpool and want Leicester to win the league. I'm not bitter or angst-ridden. It's great for English football that a club are seven points clear in April having spent a fraction of most of the title favourites at the start of this season. It'll change the mindsets of most of the non-fashionable PL clubs (including the newly promoted teams) in that they'll dare to dream without doing a Portsmouth. 4th is the new 40 points!
The best teams may not be as good in European terms as they once were but this is down to more and more clubs having the financial clout to buy the best players, both here and abroad. It's hard to build a guaranteed title winning side by simply throwing money at it - too many teams are taking points off each other.
It'll remain this way until we can entice the stellar players from Spain, PSG and Bayern/Dortmund (not to mention the increasing list of decent players chasing money in China).
Having a team ethic, good scouting, a healthy youth system and an astute, forward thinking manager has never been so important as these things will make the difference if no single team is buying up all the talent.
The Leicester team has grown organically during a period where there's been a perfect storm - lots of managerial turnoil and uncertainty at the big clubs, momentum from last season and a very short injury list - the two teams with the most consistent lineups coupled with a real team work ethic are first and second in the league. Both are getting the bulk of their points by beating the poorer quality clubs and having forwards who can hit 20+ goals in a season.
I don't think you can win the league any more by simply buying eleven top players - they often lack hunger, ambition or motivation as they're often earning top dollar. Opposition are cottoning onto the facr that working harder will often succeed if you have enough quality in key positions.
Where are all these mythical Fox hunters? The vast majority are, when getting over the limitations of their own teams, totally loving the Leicester story.
