A couple of times in the past recent Fergie years the POTY award has been after United have won the title, that's true. One in particular - I think it was 2008 - I remember the Sky commentator saying it's the club's POTY awards tonight so that should be a good night! That was May 11.
The Cup final's not til May 21. That's a week after the season's ended - league wise I mean, of course. Most players will be on holiday then, (and of course it's the Euros in June) so it wouldn't have made sense to have the awards then anyway.
Thing is, it's so long since United have been IN the FA Cup final ... it's never been an issue for 12 years, date wise!
According to the Guardian no top 4 should give Jose a chance to replace LVG(old news really). They are also considering Simieone if this was to happen.
Be happy with either tbh, but Jose does have premier league experience so that swings it for me. Anything to get rid of Dastardly and Muttley.

I've said all season that PL experience is surely a priority for the next manager to have. It's been proved Van Gaal just isn't suited to the PL. He seems to play the game in his own little world.
Someone on another board said if Van Gaal wins the FA Cup surely they can't sack him. It reminded me of a comment a commentator made as a team under Fergie walked out to play an FA Cup game in , I think, 07-08 (God, another planet away!) when he said that to Fergie the FA cup was 'a distant third in prority' - I think he said it because of the team Fergie put out, resting most of the regular players.
The FA Cup is probably a distant third for any top team in the PL. It's only, as with Arsenal, when they haven't won anything for years that winning the 'lowly' (these days) FA Cup is treated like winning the treble!

Is it a great achievement if we win it? I believe so, yes. Is it enough to keep LVG in a job? Somehow, I suspect it will be - although for me, the likely failure to get top four, and the failure to progress on last season, coupled with a brand of football that has been turgid at times, means LVG has to go.
However, that doesn't make it worthless.

The only reason I could see Simeone wanting to leave there would be if he was tired or drained. It's mentally difficult to continue to push as the underdog for prolonged periods of time. If a change is supposed to be as good as a rest then a new environment could do someone in that situation good, although the rest option would also be valid.
Don't really see much else that we have to offer him. He's competing right at the top of the #1 league at the moment and for the Champions League, he speaks Spanish but doesn't speak English as far as I know, he enjoys the culture of the city, country and club and is a bonafide hero to Atletico fans.

I still think winning cups is a bit of a lottery anyway especially considering how long it is since we've won an FA cup. That loss against Arsenal still pisses me off now.

If an FA Cup win keeps him in the job, it's a sure indication of how far United has fallen. Maybe we should get Moyes back. He's very suited to a mid-table club!

West Ham and Everton were the only PL teams we played, in, of course, the later rounds. I think. Sheff Utd, Shrewsbury and ... was it Derby, were the opponents before then?
in Fergie later years it seemed like we were always getting PL opposition early on. 07-08 was a good one. Villa, Arsenal, then Spurs we were drawn against and beat ... and lost to Portsmouth (really should have got a penalty for that foul on Ronnie! That still smarts even now! lol)

The players deserve to win something after having to endure Van Gaal and his Love Affair with Rooney for 2 years - and of course, it's been a very long time since we last won it. As I always say, Ronnie was a mere child of 19 when we last won it - just to indicate how long ago it was as he's now 31! lol

Carrick and Rooney have never won it so it'd be nice to win it for them to complete the set. Obviously I want to win it because it's a trophy that I've always found a bit special. It shouldn't keep Louis in a job though if we win it.

Of course, technically and mathematically and all that kind of thing that should never be what United relies on to get into the top 4... United still do have a chance of getting 4th, if other teams decide to not win.
But unfortunately United HAVE to win their last 3 games regardless of what anyone else does and I just don't think they will. They don't score enough goals for one thing. And they don't play consistently well enough for a whole game. I mean, they couldn't even win a home game yesterday.

Couldn't care less about Rooney. He shouldn't even be in the team, his bad form coupled with Van Gaal's devotion to him playing every second of every game is probably a big part of the problems we've had this season.
And he's got England's performances to blight this summer to come as well, yet.

im a fan of herrera but he needs a quality defensive midfielder as a partner. Im just wary of people bemoaning rooney playing there when it seems to be more about his name there rather than his actual abilities there.

I thought Rooney played well against Leicester. People complained all season about Rooney being played up front to the detriment of the squad, then if he comes back someone playing well (Rashford) would end up being dropped for him. Rooney came back, and put back into the team, and not at the expense of Rashford. Yeah he might have been shoehorned into the midfield as a way of getting him back into the team but if he does what he's asked I don't see the problem. He's the captain so he's going to play, and I didn't see much from his performance in the game against Leicester to warrant much criticism. He did a good enough job defensively I thought.

I didn't see anything from Rooney yesterday to suggest he should get a starting place over Schneidelin. I don't see the point of playing so many out of position as with the other two I also mentioned.
What did Rooney offer yesterday in that role to suggest that he is a better option than Schneiderlin?
