It's just a desperate attempt to keep the LVG/Mourinho story running as long as they can stretch it out. Pathetic clickbait, I can't even be bothered to click on the link.

One PL scenario I'm a bit nervous about is the spectre of City collapsing and West Ham grabbing 4th. spot from us. That really would hurt, so we absolutely have to turn up at their place to spoil their last match celebrations. Oh, and win the other two as well!
West Ham will be very dangerous in that match, as they will have lots of reasons to try and beat us, from trying to get fourth place, to getting revenge for the cup defeat, to the last match at the ground, amongst them.

I can see us coming unstuck there, as their motivation levels will be far higher than ours.

On what basis?

Do you honestly think that, if the top 4 is up for grabs, our players' motivation won't be at the highest level?

As I said, for the West Ham players they have got lots of reasons to want to beat us, we really only have that sole reason (as big as an incentive as it is).

Hopefully we do win there, but I am in no way getting my hopes up over it, as it will be our hardest remaining game.

It wouldnt surprise me if some of your players aren't too tempted by a qualifying round for the champions league in July

I'm sure that they'd see it as preferable to a season of Europa League slog.

Besides, I'm almost certain that a lot of their contracts will include Champions League-related bonuses.

Yep, I didn't the think about the bonus thing.

If the United players can't motivate themselves for a premier league game, they're in the wrong sport.

It's a nonsense to suggest West Ham will 'want it more,' it's the philosophy that's the issue not the players..

Of course we will be highly motivated... but we still have to really turn up to beat them there, unlike City at Real the other day.

We do tend to do that against the top teams and can beat West Ham there, but I'm still nervous about that one as it gives them the chance of getting and staying above us, with or without the ref's assistance. We should win the other two but hey, this is football so fingers crossed on that.

The West Ham game is the one that I fear the most out of all of the remaining games, they are a very good side, and can and most likely will cause us a heck of a lot of problems.

The other games are not exactly easy ones, but they are ones that I think are easier in comparison to that game.

If we can't take advantage of the fourth place spot then West Ham nicking it from City would be funny. I think they're only a point behind us aren't they?

Anything that results in City not being in the Champions League next season, would be funny and great!

I just hope that the team finishing ahead of them is us.

The matches that will determine who gets fourth spot, are the City v Arsenal game, and our away game at West Ham, as I expect, ourselves, Arsenal, City and West Ham, to win the rest of the games.

I reckon we will lose out on fourth on goal difference which is a sad way to go. Right now I am despairing that Liverpool are likely to win another European trophy. What a season.

I'm more concerned with next season than what's happening this one tbh.

At the very least City went out with a whimper, the thought of both them and Liverpool winning European trophies is just too much to contemplate really.

I seriously don't understand these attitudes.

We have an FA Cup final to play, and still have something to play for in the league.

I don't really care whether Liverpool win the Europa League, or not. It's the European League Cup. So they get a Champions League place, so what?

Are there really so few people left on this thread that actually support the team, without being utterly consumed by absolute glory, or what our rivals are doing?

We have won two away games in the premier league this year, City and Liverpool. Our away form hasn't improved so for me top 4 is done. We have failed to take advantage of other teams slipping up so I don't expect that to change.

I said a few months back that I would take an FA cup over securing top 4 and I stand by that. Top 4 is irrelevant if Van Gaal is in charge, there's no progression, just stumbling from game to game and hoping for the best.

Do you genuinely think that it's that simple? That Van Gaal literally hasn't got a clue what he's doing?

'No progression'? Check out the squad now, compared to when he took over. These things don't happen overnight. The bones are there for a very impressive side.

Am I happy with everything right now? Of course not. Would I like to see Mourinho installed, at the end of the season? Absolutely. But this thread has simply become an exercise in complaining about everything. It's pointless.

Oh, and reaching the Champions League is in no way 'irrelevant', for all sorts of financial reasons, if nothing else.

It hasn't panned out the way that any of us wanted, but perhaps there's more to it than any of us know.

I personally don't want any of our rivals winning any trophy, be it European, continental, or world.

That does not mean that I don't want us to do well, of course I do, I want us to win the last three games, and overtake City (as since Arsenal have Villa last game of the season, you might as well already put them on 70 points, and as such we cannot catch them, as we can only get a maximum of 69 points).

I would love to see us finish fourth and win the FA Cup, that would be a great end to a very, very, disappointing season (to put it mildly), and probably just about the best way that LvG could finish his time with us.

I agree, apart from the 'world' bit, which is just weird.

However, our season won't get any better or worse if Liverpool win the Europa League. It certainly wouldn't be 'too much to contemplate, really'.

That part you highlighted was in respect to the possibility of City and Liverpool winning both of the European competitions in the same season, for me that would the ultimate nightmare scenario.

Whilst if one of them wins one European trophy, that will still produce feelings of annoyance that they did so, as I don't want them to do do at any any stage.

As for our season, whilst I agree with you, it will not hinge on what others may or may not end up doing or winning, it would not look too great if we finish fifth and Liverpool win the Europa League (and thus qualify for the Champions League), or even if we finish fourth, and they win that trophy.

The same feelings will still be there over them winning a trophy, no matter how well or not we do.

Me too, I want Liverpool to be beaten yes but as that result cannot affect our prospects now City are out, it's lost its significance. I just want us to grab 4th in the league and win the FA Cup.

So I'll be rooting for us in every game, and for Arsenal vs.City. That's it really, because if my rooting works, we finish 4th, enter the CL play-offs, and win the FA Cup!

So match day, do we think that we can beat Norwich?

As both sides desperately need the three points for very different reasons.

This match certainly is a banana skin, and we do need to be careful, but I do think we should have enough to beat them (famous last words and all that!).

Im not a Man Utd fan so I apologise if my post is unwelcome but I just wanted to say that I agree with your sentiments in this thread.

Its sad if fans of the once great Man Utd are now taking extra pleasure in the failures of rivals rather than looking to their own issues. Where can there be much pleasure in Liverpool losing a final when they knocked you out in the first place or in City not getting top 4 if you dont get top 4 yourself? Its all very small time behaviour. I wouldn't expect either City or Liverpool to be cheered on obviously but Id have thought their pursuits were totally irrelevant when you have your own issues.

Why is it sad to want our biggest rivals to suffer failure in their finals?
I am sure City and Liverpool fans will be quite pleased if Palace win the FA Cup, no matter what they do in their own seasons.

Of course we have our own issues, and they do take priority over everything else, however that doesn't mean that we as fans cannot take some delight in Real Madrid beating City or (hopefully) Sevilla winning their trophy.
