I think he's going in a year anyway isn't he?
It would probably be best for all concerned if he did but there is talk of him signing a new 3 year deal, imagine the outcry if that happened, to be fair Wenger should probably of left Arsenal in about 2009.

I wonder which fan base would have the bigger outcry, Arsenal's if Wenger signed a new three year deal, or ours if LvG did the same this summer?!

Wonder no more.

Van Gaal is here for one more year, if that. He won't be signing any extension.

It was just a purely hypothetical matter!

Ah, right.

So it was an utterly pointless post then. Brilliant.

Not really, I was only looking to have a bit of fun, sorry about that.

'Fun'?

A couple of things that you should probably bear in mind:

- Please ensure your reply is constructive and adds to the discussion.
- Pointless posts will be removed and may result in you losing posting privileges.

Unbelievably, these are supposedly a part of the terms and conditions. You'd never guess.

A new three year deal? Have our decision makers been the victims of a body snatching scam ?

Actually scrub that I thought you were taking about Van Gaal. I doubt the Arsenal fans could take that kind of news tbh.

Yes "fun", it might be a word that you are unfamiliar with, but others do quite like to have a bit of fun whilst talking about football matters, it doesn't always have to be serious.

I think it all comes down to the match with West Ham, win that, and what City do v Swansea becomes irrelevant.
If we don't beat Bournemouth it would be very relevant.

Anyway Arsenal have done us a big favour and if we screw it up now there can be no excuses.

I'm very familiar with the word. I guess that we just have different definitions of it.

For example, I had 'fun' this weekend, enjoying the sun with good friends, food and drink. I suppose that I could have binned that off, so that I could waste people's time by trying to start 'hypothetical' debates on the internet, but horses for courses, I guess.

Anyway, in United-related news, this Sanches kid could end up costing us £63m, apparently. And he was sent off, at the weekend.

63 million?

I think we should pass on this one. They're trying to mug us off by the sound of it.

Hard to say.

It's being reported that we'd pay about half up front, with the rest dependent on his progress.

I've not seen him play, so I have no idea if he's as good as the proposed price would suggest.

Going to be par for the course this Summer I'm afraid. I think there will be more money floating around than quality players available, I mean, look at Boro, comes up to PL with a minimum 170 million smackers! It's insane.

It will probably be a case of pay up, or lose out.

I don't know if you know but it is possible to have fun with friends in the sun, and post things on here.

So any discussion about José being our manager or not is classified by you as wasting time is it?
As it is hypothetical at this stage.

So is this Sanches possible transfer, but it is alright to talk about that because you brought it up, is that it?

The whole of the world knows about the new television deal, and how much each club will be getting, so this is what you will be getting more and more of.

A player that might be worth only about 20-30 million, will now be going for about double that, as clubs will be able to ask for the higher price range, knowing that clubs with all of the money, and are interested in their player(s), will have to pay it, if they want the player(s).

It is crazy money, but then that has been said about every time a new benchmark in transfers happens.

I think this instance is just the same as Martial and Memphis. There will be a trend for the richest clubs to snap up any youngsters who come through and show any promise at first team level with slightly lesser clubs. Big fees and big add-ons will be the norm as the biggest clubs are unable to develop their own players properly.

There might be more deals along the lines of the ones that Real Madrid have done with Moratta I think, to try and get the best youngsters some crucial game time.

Whatever the actual transfer method, things will be more expensive, either short-term, or in the long-term.

Unsurprisingly, you don't seem to appreciate the difference between speculating on things reported in the press, you know, things that might actually have some basis in reality, and plucking some wistful nonsense out of thin air, and then asking the forum for their views.

Van Gaal will not get a 3 year extension, so what's the point in asking about it?

Anyway, I've had enough. And judging by the lack of traffic in this thread, it would appear that I'm not alone.

It is surely all part of the general discussion of this thread?

Why should certain things be off limits?

Can we not have a bit of fun away from the normal topics that might be dominating the headlines at the time??

It is a shame that more people are not posting here, I wish that they would, it is very strange that it has gotten as quite as it has recently.

This may have been mentioned before.

"If there's a 50/50 split of assets when Giggsy gets divorced, his ex-wife Stacey will have more football medals than Steven Gerrard."

Stepping back 25 posts, the crazy thing is, with only two matches to go, we could still finish up anywhere between 3rd. and 8th!

West Ham will be tricky - they need to win to get into the Europa League... plus their final game ever at Upton Park, should be an interesting match and I have no idea how it will end up, I just want us to win. But until we do, all this media talk about us finishing 4th is a tad premature, methinks. As for "in our own hands" talk, well that's just stupid because it's equally in the hands of West Ham, Bournemouth and whoever City have to play. Not to mention the officials...

Yeah, I've got a bad feeling about the game tomorrow. Not helped by the fuss that was made at the weekend, as you mention.

I'd feel more confident if Fellaini was available. I'm presuming that Martial's out, as well.

Me too, re. Fellaini. And I never thought I'd be saying that a few months back! God I hope Martial isn't out.

Hear, hear.

Back on topic. With tonight being the last ever game at Upton Park I hope it gets to the West Ham players and inhibits them rather than inspiring them to play like demons, we need those 3 points to have the advantage going into the last round of games.
