We have an Intercontinental Cup, and a World Club Cup, unlike them, so we have that over them!

And it is very unlikely that they will get close to competing for the latter in the near future at the very least!

Does anyone here miss it when before FA Cup finals of years gone by, the two teams would put out songs before the big day??

I still remember two that we did, and they were quite catchy; I wish that we would do this again.

The pre match build up on Saturday morning and into the afternoon was great.

Yeah I miss all of that pre-match excitement that was generated from the songs to the shows that were purely dedicated to the final.

Compared to us, I'd say with their management set up and the fact they are in the europa cup final which could very well lead them to a champions league place next season they have a much better chance than us.

Mickey Mouse trophies. Are you forgetting they are in the Europa final so could well be in the CL next season

Absolutely right.

Anyone clinging to that crap as way of comparison should probably include the Community/Charity Shield, and any tinpot, friendly, pre-season 'trophy' won.

I am not forgetting that they are in the final of the Sevilla Trophy final, aka Europa League final.

As for the other trophies why are they "Mickey Mouse trophies"??

What makes them not worthy of not being included, as the World Club Cup is the hardest trophy to qualify for, as you have to win the Champions League, and that is not exactly an easy task to do!

You're running that 'Sevilla Trophy' gag into the ground, eh?

You have to win the Premier League or FA Cup in order to win the Community Shield. That still doesn't make it anything other than a nothing trophy, that nobody cares about.

Well it is their trophy, they have earned that right for the trophy to be named after them! (Let's hope that continues to be the case!)

As for the other debate, the format could do with changing for the Club World Cup (the one that we entered into in 2000 was better than how it currently is set up I think) but the actual premise is a solid one; that of taking the continental champions, and putting them together to see who is the overall champion.

That is different to say the Community Shield, as you are playing off two different trophies (league v Cup), so you are not doing like for like.

Really? Those trophies are worthless imo.

I reckon 90% of people wouldn't recognise photos of those trophies in a quiz. They're on par with winning the Audi cup or whatever it is.

I would trade both those two cups for the same amount of Champions league trophy wins they have.

Blind loyalty always makes me laugh. I can appreciate that we all love United and don't like Liverpool but to ignorantly compare 2 silly competitions that we have won over their success is silly.

I'm already at the slitting my wrists stage. I still cannot believe that I turned a cup final ticket down as I simply cannot bear to spend hours travelling and then having to watch the poor fare we continue to serve up...............
Mind you - if LVG stays that means no 'Legend' Zlatan which is fine by me, every cloud and all that..........

Yeah anything that pertains to the managers job will not be announced until after the cup final, I do think things would have been known by now if (a) we were totally out of the Champions League race, and (b) not in the cup final.

I don't think he'll see out his final year. What compelling reasons are there to keep him?

I don't think he's the answer to our problems. At his age trying to adjust to the Premier League just may not happen, I get a sense of Veron and Di Maria all over again. Whilst we do need a forward who can score consistently, our biggest problem is still our midfield.

It's still fragile, it's still slow and lacking creativity. I may not be Carrick's biggest fan, but he did at least offer some creativity, but this year regardless of the injury it's been one year to many to rely on him. Schneiderlin has been a disappointment, Schwiny was doing OK till he got injured, and I fear we'll have the same next year from him. Mata and Herrera look great at times, but don't influence games as they should and are softer than butter. Fellaini, well he's Fellaini we could have done with him last night, but whilst I wanted him when he was at Everton, he's never quite reached the same levels at United. That leaves us with the youngsters, and whilst I think Lingard's done a decent job for us this year and can be a decent squad player for the next 2 or 3 years, till the next one comes through, I'm sure we can find an upgrade.

Oh and whilst this does sound almost like a broken record as I've been going on about the midfield for what seems like forever, it doesn't help in terms of creativity when the manager insists we play the way we do. Slow, patient, possession football is OK in Europe, but it doesn't cut the mustard in the Premier League, and it's been to our detriment.”

Apart from Schwiny being ok before he was injured, I pretty much agree with everything else you've said. I actually also think we've been quite lucky, all things considered. We have had a stinker of a season in terms of goals scored and entertainment value and yet are still ridiculously in with a shout of 4th (which I will be putting a bet on us to get) and in a major cup final. When it comes to LVG, the board seem to be thinking like Napoleon in terms of lucky generals but while I hope the wilting tulip is able to end this year with success and leave with dignity, after that we should get rid.

It's unthinkable that Conte, Guardiola, Klopp - or even Wegner will allow their teams to give us so many gift-wrapped presents of hope next season. While I don't agree that this is a title-winning team under different management, it's not far off working with a few tweaks. But we all know where the biggest change has to be.

No way. Might be another year though, if... well you know.....

TBF there were lots of reds as well who thought Martinez was a better shout than Moyes in our post-Fergie season. I was one of them And TBF part 2, Ninny has always called Roberto out for his defensive frailities.

But, given their clear potential and how much they have under-achieved, Everton are yet another team I expect to be challenging for honours next season if they get their next appointment right. As if the competition won't already be fierce enough........

It really would make sense for a new manager to come in asap after the FA Cup final. With the way Utd are struggling and Van Gaal only having one year left, it seems utterly pointless to let him have another transfer window when he'll be gone in twelve months. Get a new manager in early, give them the entire summer, get their targets drawn up and get into action.

My fingers are crossed for Mourinho. He knows the Premier League inside out and I really think he's the sort of manager players want to play for. He'd be a huge lift for both players and fans. From a personal perspective, I like to see some passion on the touchline, too. Giggs popping up every now and again just doesn't cut it for me. Mourinho would absolutely show that passion.

From the article:

"A clause in United's £750m deal with kit supplier Adidas means they would sacrifice £22m over the remainder of the 10-year contract should they fail to qualify for the Champions League group stage in successive seasons.

"That isn't something that keeps us awake at night," said Hemen Tseayo, United's head of corporate finance."

It's the implications of quotes like that which keeps me awake at night!

Other reports claim it was the prospect of relegation that doesn't keep us awake at night. The full quote: "We only have only one other contract that has a penalty clause in it if you like and that’s the Chevrolet contract, however that only bites if we are relegated from the Premier League and that’s not something that keeps us awake at night.”

Think the BBC are being shitstirrers by linking that quote to the stuff about Adidas/Cl.
