Other reports claim it was the prospect of relegation that doesn't keep us awake at night. The full quote: "We only have only one other contract that has a penalty clause in it if you like and that’s the Chevrolet contract, however that only bites if we are relegated from the Premier League and that’s not something that keeps us awake at night.”

Think the BBC are being shitstirrers by linking that quote to the stuff about Adidas/Cl.
Quite shocked by the BBC piece. Not only is the Guardian more informative about this and the impressive state of United's finances overall, it attributes the quotes to Woodward, not Hemen Tseayo

The BBC can be as bad as the rest of them when they want to be.

The BBC are quite poor at actual articles like this, I trust actual papers with reporters that have a connection to the club like the Guardian way more.

That's either very sneaky or very sloppy from the beeb. Can't find the full quote myself but have done some other digging around and both Ed and the Hemen guy are quoted as taking failure to qualify for the CL as both the financial and footballing disappointment it clearly is. That's a relief. Now, what are you going to do about it guys....?

Edit: Have read the Guardian article now. Quite informative. Pity the BBC couldn't match it.

They can be pretty bad at times but I agree with NiteOwl, that's shocking reporting. Hell I reckon even the Daily Star would have got the right quotes.

Reckon it's sneaky to be honest.

As for what they are going to do about it, I still reckon they've basically already done it.

Odds of 1/7 to be Utd manager on Sky Bet.
Next Utd manager actually, and no date specified. You can only get 2/1 on LVG to start next season as Utd manager.

As for the BBC article, it's just sloppy journalism. Shame on them though for still not correcting it.

"Of course you can say Manchester United need to be champions. Yes, I know the expectations are like that but I don’t think that is realistic. " Louis van Gaal, Friday, 13th May 2016

https://www.theguardian.com/football...ity-for-fourth

I couldn't disagree more with van Gaal. Last season, after the Moyes debacle, a Champions League place was the realistic target, although no one was expecting the abject, inadequate performance served up in the Champions League this season - or am I supposed to treat that as yet more van Gaal realism. But this season, nothing less than seriously competing for the title was/is acceptable and if I recall correctly this view was repeatedly expressed by various posters, many sadly no longer with us, in this thread pre-season. As far as I am concerned, this is van Gaal talking down United to boost his own claims to continue in the job having completed, in his surreal terms, another successful, realistic season. So it is 'realistic' to end the season 17 points or so behind Leicester and having to score 12 goals in the last match of the season simply to equal the worst ever goal tally for United in a season in the premier league. And it is 'realistic' to achieve this level of 'success' playing a style of football that is a very bad parody of what most people associate, accurately or not, with the entire post WWII history of the club.

So, after the team has run round round Wembley with the Cup, it will be realistic in my view not to allow Van Gaal to see out his contract, but to take him to Heathrow in a limo, with a one way first class ticket to the Netherlands. Thanks, but no thanks, job badly done. Welcome José!

We are all on agreement here for once (I think), that saying such things does him no favours whatsoever, and only increases the desire of the fans to see the back of him.

At the risk of posting something with which you are all familiar, here is a link to a grid giving all the goals scored for United by season from 1892 -2015; clicking on a total in the grid reveals the goal scorers for that season.

So we hesitated once again in a transfer and lost out.
Sanches wanted to join United and follow Ronaldos
Path to superstardom.
Ed woodward and van gaal both need to go.

I dont understand the problem here? They scouted the player but weren't sold on him so didn't bid and he went elsewhere. Would you rather the club spent £50m on a player they weren't sure about? All these signings are judgement calls. From what Ive read most United fans were shocked at the transfer fee for the player and were far from convinced, maybe the club thought the same?

It dies seem that any deal for any half decent young player these days, the price just becomes stupidly high, perhaps we are to blame for the deal we did for Martial, was also very high, but it does seem prices are on the up and up.

It surely cannot be long before the world transfer record will be broken again at this rate by someone.

I dont think any of these types of deals will break the transfer record. Theres only a very select few players that will beat that figure I reckon.

Criticism of the club for clear cut incompetence is one thing, criticism of the club based on a media story is another. The media have spent years making shit up about the club to generate clicks on websites and probably 80% of it has always been crap. Otherwise we would have signed sneijder, garay and enough other players over the years to fill old Trafford.

No Rojo, unless my eyes are deceiving me, so perhaps either he us injured or just rested for the final?

Perhaps B-J will get a game then?

I hope that is true, he has done well and the step up has not really phased him, so he would have fully deserved a new and improved contract, if that does materialise.
