Goalkeepers don't go for that much, there's a reason Buffon is still the most expensive goalkeeper at £33m, 15 years later. Doesn't matter how good De Gea is, to expect something like £80m is expecting something that just won't happen. When Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet for around £9m people were saying it was expensive, or expensive for a goalkeeper. £9m is nothing in today's game yet it was considered expensive for a goalkeeper.

You also have to factor in him wanting to go. If he wants to go, and only one club is going in for him then that lowers his value. He's then only as valuable as the most expensive offer. Him signing a new contract doesn't necessarily mean he's staying, he DID want to go, he didn't suddenly change his mind. Him signing a contract was probably the club protecting his value. If Real Madrid come in for him this summer and he still wants to go then he'll go, and you won't be getting £80m for him.

Doesn't matter how good a goalkeeper is, if you have £80m to spend on one player you're not going to put that on a goalkeeper, and it'd be a poor investment if you do. You can get the same for £30m at most, whereas £80m gets you players like Luis Suárez.

#mufc XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson, Carrick, Rooney, Mata, Lingard, Martial, Rashford. https://t.co/qOz5Rhl5rc

Subs: Romero, Varela, Jones, A. Pereira, Herrera, Young, Memphis. #mufc

So basically a first choice team, looks like we are going for those 19 goals then!

Hopefully no injuries ahead of the cup final.

Playing the first team is really dumb.

Not the first time that LVG has made a dumb decision whilst he has been in charge at United, hopefully it is one of the last though, no doubt one of our big name players will get injured and miss Saturday's game.

Odorous stench of mediocrity coming from the manager's office has not been dealt with, but tonight's match expects to go on as scheduled.

Why is that kid painted blue? Surely our mascots should be any colour other than blue...

Marketing tie in, with the upcoming X-Men film.

Reading the last few pages of this thread it seems certain people don't believe any player in a contract has ever signed for another club,

So... will there be cake and party speeches after this?

Typical. Last game of the season and a dead rubber and I have managed to get a stream so clear it's like being at the stadium. Guess there's less traffic on the net...

We look as if we've got the beating of them but TBH, I don't think we're going to get the goals we need...

BTW I don't think it's the worst decision LVG has made to play the first team. That has to be put in context of course, but I can see the thinking that an entirely probable win and enough days to rest would give us a boost going into the final.

Not a stupid decision at all to play the first team.

Rest them and they won't have played for nigh on 12 days.

It would have been a stupendous prepartion tactic for the Cup Final.

Typical LVG game. One day this once great club might show ambition

So perhaps it's me, but I'm starting to think a 19-0 win is unattainable.

A goal of such subtle beauty does not belong in a game like this.

Another Eighteen goals and Man United will be in the Champions League

Well, that goal was easy on the eye. Slick build up and really nice step over by Rashford.

Good for Rooney to get one too.

Had almost anyone else said this I'd think they were joking. With you I'm not so sure...

Of course players in contract have signed for other clubs, don't be so daft as to minimise a talking point to that sort of level.

Yeah pleased Rooney got the goal too hopefully he will do what he usually does when he scores and goes on a run of scoring goals, obviously he can't go on one as the season is all but over but it might be a good omen for Saturday though i have probably cursed it now Also well done to Wayne for scoring his 100th premier league goal at Old Trafford that is a good achievement and he is only 5 goals of surpassing Sir Bobby's club record hopefully he can do it next season.

Ill thank you for not calling me daft. I have seen you on many occasions recently opine that things shouldn't get personal and here you are doing the exact same thing you wish others not to do to you,

However, I'd question why you brought up de gea signing a new contact as a reason he may not leave if you then say players under contract do leave anyway.

It's not unheard of for players to leave after just signing a new contract. Especially if that player wanted to leave anyway. It's not like Real Madrid would care, either.
