Especially a lesser role , fraction of the salary and limited input .

No way Giggs stays inho.

Always thought Milner was reliable and hard-working, but this season he's stepped up to another level. Would be a huge shock if he doesn't make the final squad.

Cantona was in his prime when he came to United, Ibra is on the wane and ain't going to get any better. If Jose is hot on him as some on here seem to think, I only hope he waits to see how well he plays at the Euro's. He's on a free, so the wait shouldn't matter that much. If he has a good showing there, with players less talented than the PSG ones to set up his goals for him, fair play, might be worth a punt.

Well said. Also, while I'm glad LVG left with a trophy I could care less about the so-called crassness of his sacking. The sack is the sack, it's never nice and I'm sure he's got a pretty good compensation package. I feel sorrier for the match-going fans who had to put up with a season of turgid football that he was directly responsible for. I have been in more exciting post-office queues than the football on offer in many of our matches. But I could switch off or walk away (something I never did, even under Moyes) - unlike the poor regular fans. And lastly, I'm much more interested in Jose learning the lessons of his last sacking. That's what's important now.

And winning stuff. A LOT of stuff.

I'll see your 3/10 and give you 2015 Leciester-odds on Giggs going. I think it'll take a scenario involving tractors and iron chains to get his risk-averse, entitled ass out of OT.

He isn't a punt in that respect he is a proven world class striker and if you disagree I don't think three weeks in the summer proves that one way or another in all honesty.

He's a definite punt for me, plays when he wants to. Saw him in a couple of Champions League games this season and he was anonymous. He's also not a team player, it's all about Zlatan.
We don't even know if Mourinho wants him - does he have a track record of buying players at the end of their careers - Drogba was going back so a known quantity, otherwise can only think of Shevchenko who was Abramovic's buy - at the end of his career and we all know how that turned out.

Granted I didn't watch many PSG games this season but when he came to the Etihad he was virtually anonymous, got nothing out of Mangala & Otamendi. I don't think people realise how poor a standard the French league is.

He's a definite punt, be good to watch how he gets on with Mourinho though as he arguably has a bigger ego than even him!

Apparently we may not have a public announcement until Friday, personal terms have been agreed but there is some conflict with Jose's sponsorship deals and Uniteds eg. he advertises for Jaguar and we have Chevrolet, he represents Hublot watches whereas United have changed to Bulova.
It's not expected to prevent him joining but the lawyers are still arguing over all of this.

Wow, the things that go into holding up deals from bring completed these days are crazy!

Chelsea apparently hold the trademark to the name "José Mourinho"!

No no that's not what I mean. You can think its a risky signing but it not a punt in terms of what you get and at 34 you have probably 15 years of a career to look back on to decide if he is a player you would like or not and that will be your basis not how he performs in the Euro's for 3 or 4 games as Makosi's Pants suggested.

As an aside its a Falcao type deal without the injury to worry about. If the risk is paying large wages and that's all then its probably a risk that most clubs would take.

Someone who may be in a position to know about these things told me yesterday that he expected to be busy on Friday. Because I'm a real fan who goes to games and everything.

Utter BS - it's really hard to tradmark an individual's name unless it's 'distinctive' and/also the name of a business.
And why would he allow it as they have sacked him twice!

I can well believe that but don't see it as too much of a problem, whatever we think of Woody's footballing knowledge, he's an excellent haggler and deal maker. I bet he'd just buy out Jose's sponsorships if it suited him and, of course, if he gets the job he's suddenly worth a lot more to sponsors, us being United and all.

Ridiculous, isn't it? Almost as funny as others believing it, or purporting to, because it suits their lame agenda.

Absolutely, I mean, there's no better way to find out that you've got the sack than from your understanding wife, right in the middle of your celebrations of the first major trophy for 3 years... he must have been delighted not to have to be told by that nasty Mr. Woodward.

All buys are a punt and Zlatan is proven but he's also ageing. And at his age, he can rapidly decline at any time, especially playing up front. I haven't had the opportunity to watch him outside the CL, but what I did see worried me. Against Chelsea, he looked class and as if he had a lot left. Against City he had a stinker and looked drained. Was that due to the amount of games he had played taking it's toll on him at his age or just an off day? I don't know, but I would like to see how he copes in the Euro's to be sure.

You know the saying? Don't buy an unknown player on the back of a good tournament or something like that? Well for me, this would be the exact opposite.

Do you genuinely believe that he didn't have an inkling?

He will have known, as soon as we couldn't qualify for the Champions League. It's quite clear that doing that is the absolute, minimum requirement.

No, what makes you think that? Having an inkling and getting knifed in the middle of your celebrations are two different things though. Whoever leaked it to Stone, United should have been prepared for that possibility and clearly weren't.

But hey, it's history now and here comes Jose!

No worries I just disagree, many players will have poor tournaments and still go on to have good seasons the following year. I think there is enough info out there about him to decide (positively or negatively) without the relative lottery of three or four games in the summer.

I feel sure that all managers who rate him would be happy to take the risk knowing that if it doesn't pay off all that has been lost is his wages, large as they are.

I think Man Utd are ideal for him simply because he will play in the big games but will probably be rested and rotated to account for his age, that will allow for the further use of Rashford or AN Other whilst still having the big name player on board when required.

It would have been met with equal derision had Van Gaal been fired in the run up to the cup final.

Considering the amount of speculation that had been around for months regarding mourinho and the fact that it seemed that no one had the actual scoop, I think man United did quite well and didn't leak a thing until the last minute.

Leaks happen. All I'm saying is that United should have been prepared for this but seemingly weren't. That's it.

If he genuinely had no idea and his wife told him I suspect it'd have been evident from his post match interviews. In all honesty if it was me and I'd been randomly told out of the blue by my other half I'd just been sacked I've have told them to get to f*** and not even done an interview!

If we had to pay a fee on top of paying Zlatan whatever amounts per week, then that would be something that would put me off of signing him, but getting him on a free for a year or maybe two tops, wouldn't be such a bad deal all told.

If it works out great, if not, then he is not here for that long, so it wouldn't hurt us that much from a purely playing perspective.
