I think it's nice to have a break tbh after a slog of a season.
Plus, this time, pre-season for United is something to look forward to! ![]() And before both of those, of course, the new boss will be trying out his dug out seat next Sunday! (unless he's mischevious and sits in the away seats instead! lol) It's almost surreal to think he'll be there as Manchester United manager. I know he always gets attention but it sure to be madness next week when he appears for the first time at OT as the new manager. People might need to be reminded there's a charity match going on, y'know! lol |

Speaking of betting, which one or two were, I see that we've shot up from 5th. favourites to win the PL next season, to 2nd. favourites (behind City).
This appointment is having quite an impact, even among the punters... and Mourinho vs. Guardiola just makes it all the more an exciting prospect! I just hope Jose is able to learn from his mistakes. It'll be a real eye opener for him. |

Almost as fascinating to me as having Jose as our new manager next season, will be seeing how Pep manages in the bear pit that is the Premier League, when he's not in a 2 team or 1 team league and he doesn't have a team of world class players to rescue him.
It'll be a real eye opener for him. |

I believe had LVG stayed he wouldn't have got another year, well according to James Cooper from SSN anyway.
So it's probably a safe bet that Van Gaal wouldn't have given him one. Specially as he was offered his previous contract in the April. Will be interesting to see if he does stay or Jose has other plans. Saw him before at the Grand Prix! |

Talk of Carrick getting another year which I think is a good thing
We need someone like him, steady, dependable & someone the youngsters can look up to. Does his job quietly & rarely gets injured. |

It may actually be an eye opener how poor the quality of our league is to be honest .
I always used to say Ronnie would find it like playing beach football after the PL - as it's turned out to be. Scoring 42 goals for United was seen as some wonderous achievement. Once he realised how easy it was in La Liga, he's been scoring 50 odd goals a season for fun. |

It will be interesting to see how Schweinsteiger is used by José, as he doesn't jump out as a player that he would ideally use (in my mind anyway).

Congratulations to Fletcher and to Barnsley today, another great day for one of our younger players.

"Jose loves players over 30" is going to get very boring very quickly.
No pleasing some people. |

No pleasing some people. I personally think he will use a completely different strategy with United. The other clubs he's been at wanted instant success, so he went for experience. And of course, they were short term. I truly believe he will want to stay at United for many years because it's the one job he has always wanted and he will want to settle at. When he mentioned United in the past a word he always used to describe them was 'stability' - you don't get that over 2 or 3 years. And he also knows how United value youth. And he'll have longer to bring youth in, but the first season he needs to steady the ship - and even people who want him to not ignore youth have said that, that getting the consistency back is most important. Youth or no youth. He has a little gem in Marcus Rashford, and he's nor stupid, he'll have seen that, but he is only 18 and not even Ronnie played regularly at 18, and of course Marcus only came into the team in February. He didn't do a whole season. He needs to be used properly next season. Besides - hopefully he has a Euros to go to first! |

It's a statistic that doesn't really make any sense anyway. It's born more from the fact that Mouriniho's teams are often associated with a couple of very experienced players, like Terry, Drogba or Lampard, with youth around them. I believe his first Chelsea squad that won the league did so with a lower than average age for PL winners actually.
Besides, it's not like Fergie didn't do exactly the same thing. Scholes, Giggs, Ferdinand, Van Der Saar... |

Just a heads up for you 'older' United fans
It's been on a few times but tomorrow morning on Sky Sports 5 at 9am is Time of your lives with Denis Law, David Sadler and Alex Stepney talking about Sir Matt |

Maybe, but he did spend a long time in a 2 team league - La Liga - where apart from two teams (it's probably 3 now) it was hardly brilliant quality. Even this season the points at the end ... there's about 20 points between 3rd and 4th, or something like that.

Yeah I wait in anticipation for La Liga's equivalent of Leicester to win the league.

Apparently one of the latest stories on the back pages is that José wants Rio to come back as a coach, has he done his badges, if so, not a bad shout I suppose, as he is a very vocal person, and if anyone could get our defence sorted out, then I guess he could be as good as any.

Criticise what though? It's pretty objective that La Liga is a better league than the Premier League and if we're talking about it not being "competitive" - the La Liga title race was taken to the very last day by 3 teams.
Whereas Leicester(!) won the Premier League by 10(!) points. I couldn't give a toss about the merits, or otherwise, of the Spanish league. |

Another link is with Recce Oxford, the young West Ham defender, I don't know if we should go for him, seeing as we have a few good young defenders ourselves coming up through the ranks (Mensah, Poole, Tuzanabe etc), plus he would seemingly cost a fair chunk of cash (over £10 million apparently).

Rather have Vida back tbh. The bunch of fairies we have now are a stark contrast to the blood and thunder magnificence of Vida. Smalling and Blind wouldn't know what hit them.
I always did prefer Stam to Vidic.
