They were the obvious two for the press to pick on straightaway - Juan because Jose sold him to us and Daley because he's not really anyone's idea of a central defender apart from Van Gaal's.

It's funny how they seem to be the only two players from the entire squad the press think Jose wants rid of!

I wonder what happens with Phil Jones. He's never fit, it feels like he's barely played for 2 years, he's the sort of player you'd think would be first out the door. Assuming he doesn't injure himself walking through it!

No truth at all in the Jose was paid money not to take another job before he got the United job, according to James Cooper the day before he was officially appointed, anyway.

I agree completely about Jose getting more out the players. The way van Gaal had them playing sucked the life out of them - the drab, boring, turgid football he had them play would have stifled anyone.

Jones has been a massive letdown unfortunately. Injuries apart I've never really got the hype with him.

José has apparently pulled out of Sunday's game, so his first home match I think will be Rooney's testimonial on the third of August.

Giggs finally realises he's never gonna be man u manager without getting some experience. We'll see how good a manager he is now.

It will be such a strange season, as if true, then this will be my first real season that I can properly remember, that Giggs will not have been involved with us in one way or another.

It will take some getting used to initially to think of him as an ex-Manchester United employee.

But good luck to him wherever he ends up next.

Surely it's better for Gigggs to go to a smaller club/lower league and get some proper managment experience for a few years.

It's not as if the chance to come back to Man Utd as manager in 5/10 years with some proper experience under his belt will never hever happen.

As great a player and servant to the club he was, it's a little arrogant to think he can just walk into the top job at such a huge club with no experience.

I didn't think it was likely he would move anyway, and I have always thought rumours and talk of clauses etc were a bit far fetched, so hopefully this means he is staying around for a good while yet.

Jose had already got a Champions league trophy at an earlier age than Giggs is now. Look at all the managers in the premier league who are younger than he is.

If he wants to be a manager he has to move on. If he was promised the top job after LVG went then that time has now passed. Probably not great for Giggs but the best for Manchester United.

He should have retired earlier, I don't think playing into his forties has helped tbh unless he genuinely thought the United job would be a succession plan.

He was just not a well person then, so needed some extra time to fully be healthy in body and mind!

Since signing that contract, that should have been the end of all that pesky transfer away nonsense, but the media do love a good tug of war story or narrative, so I guess that is why that it carried on for a while longer than really necessary.

There is just no reason for us to even contemplate selling our best player, so Real Madrid or anyone else are just waiting their time if they think that they can sign him, something that I think that I have been saying for a good while now!

It is not as if Real Madrid pay their players small amounts of cash, they could easily find the money for a big important player, if they wanted him.

My opinion was criticised at the time last summer by some for thinking that he would be here beyond this season just gone, yet it seems highly likely now that he will be here for a good while to come.

José would look very bad if one of his first pieces of business was to be selling his best player, so I cannot see him being a willing participant in any proposed deal, hence why it just will not happen.

Never understood why Van Gaal didn't play David early in the season. He's a professional, I doubt' he'd have let anything get in the way of doing the best job he could.

Though I did laugh at Van Gaal's comment before the Liverpool game - the first game David played, when he said he had no doubts about playing him because he had a empty head! He had nothing in his head. lol Oh dear, the perils of not being fluent English. It was obvious what he meant, but to say he had an empty head with nothing in it just sounded so funny.

I actually think we have a very good chance of keeping him this time , unlike the fax machine which we have a lot to thank last season or whatever held up the deal.

I don't see a reason for us to sell him, whatever transfer fee we would get for him (it would have to be a mega one seeing as he has three or four years left on his current deal, and as I have been told previously goalkeepers don't generally get sold for the bigger or higher fees that forward players for example go for), would have to used to find his replacement, as players of his quality are very hard to replace.

I honestly can't see a reason why we would entertain the idea of doing so, as if anyone knows about Real Madrid, and the perils of that club, it is José, so he can tell De Gea, that life there is not all that it is made out to be.

Really? His CV as a player is impressive but clubs don't want a player they want a manager. And his 'management' CV is pathetic. The SSN guy completely ignored his time under Moyes and said he'd been a player for years under Fergie and spent 2 years with Van Gaal. How is that supposed to impress anyone, considering the football Van Gaal played and the diasaster the two years were, apart from the FA Cup at the end?

What I find weird about the whole Giggs thing is that he was never sacked when the rest of Moyes coaching staff was sacked with him and he was never sacked when the rest of Van Gaal's management team was sacked along with Van Gaal. Why? Was he not really a coach or assistant manager but just given the title and a wage to keep him there for 3 years? I can't see that impressing any club.
I can't believe he was ever offered the manager's job after Van Gaal. He has no managerial experience, and he's never managed a competitive game ever - 4 dead games at the end the season don't count, no one cared what happened in those games. To go from that to taking the top job?

It'll be fascinating to see how he does away from the cossetted suroundings of OT. Someone in the media - can't remember who - said the problem with United legends going into management is that they have to do it away from OT obviously, and they rarely reach the heights expected of a United manager, so once Giggs leaves he might never be asked back again.
The biggest irony would be if he tries solo management in the real world, away from OT and he finds he doesn't even enjoy doing it, regardless of whether he's good at it or not!

Seeing as he is on a long term deal with us, unless they offer a world record fee (not just for a goalkeeper, but an actual fee bigger than that of Bale or Neymar), and I cannot see them doing that (see my previous post as to why), then I am very confident of him being here for a good while longer.

From these comments it does seem he is happy being here as well, so I just don't see what angle Real Madrid have got to go on, to try and manipulate this situation to their advantage.

If the player wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay, and the club want him to stay, then there doesn't seem to be a reason for the transfer to happen does it?

I agree with what you have said here fully, for me Giggs sees United as his sort of comfort blanket, he has never really had to worry about his future, as he has known as a player Sir Alex backed him fully, and would never have sold him, and so this has been his second home.

He is in his mid-forties, and he really has not had much experience away from this club, all he has known is the players and staff that have passed through whilst he has been here.

I just don't see a big club willing to give him the management role that is possibly craving or desiring, as he is too much ingrained with us, he needs to break away from us, and somehow show to others that there is more to him, then just being a Manchester United player and legend.

Nothing to be sorry for. It's the best move for him and for us, if it happens. He has been a great servant but he needs to learn his trade elsewhere and prove worthy rather than walk into the job because of patronage.

If he leaves and becomes a good manager somewhere, he's a candidate, if not we have dodged a cannonball.

It could work out very well for him if he does leave, say he does well at a Championship level club (for example), he guides them up via the Play-offs, and then a club like Southampton or Everton come along for his services, he does well with one of them, then we could be interested in him at that stage, so all is not lost for him if he leaves us at this stage in his managerial career.
