Mourinho might be gone in 3 years but he may not. Any other manager may be gone in 3 years as well.

I fail to see why we should rule out a manager with the record of success he has on the basis that he MAY leave after three years and should instead appoint someone with a worse record because they would be more likely to stick around.”

Nail on head with this.

The era of Fergie, Wenger and that bloke who got fired from Portadown the other week is over.

I'd never heard of this Favre, that Batdude mentions so I've just googled him. It appears that the sum total of his achievements is jobbing around Switzerland, getting sacked by Hertha Berlin and finishing 3rd in Germany.

In what way does that qualify him to manage Manchester United? If we're stretching it that far then we might just as well appoint Pardew, Pulis or Hughes and be done with it.

If I remember correctly, I remember reading one or two articles about Favre a year or two back. He's known for promoting youth (I think his Borussia M sidehad regularly had an uncommonly young starting lineup) and playing a quick counter attacking style of football. Sounds like he'd be a good choice for the likes of Leicester if Ranieri retires next season, or possibly someone like Soton. It's absurd to link him with the United job though, especially at this particular stage.

Promoting youth is fine if they are good enough. Promoting them for the sake of it is a recipe for disaster.

"On Mourinho’s side, the three-times Premier League winner has said he is hopeful of a summer return and claims to have turned down a number of offers since parting company with Chelsea.

Speaking to Fletch and Sav on BT Sport, the 53-year-old said: “I was lucky enough to have good options since I left Chelsea in December. Yes I was lucky enough to have not just options but good options but I made a decision to wait calm in my corner, not disturbing, just waiting, reading a few lies, listen to a few lies."

I'm not Januzaj's biggest fan at all but it's bizarre how he hasn't had a sniff since he's come back given how bereft of options and style going forward. It's as if Van Gaal doesn't want anyone playing unless they're completely de-programmed of whatever it is they learnt from the previous club.

Well, thinking about it, it's another reason (if any more were needed) to be wary about employing him. Not wishing to take anything away from his achievements but you'd imagine that he must have got lucky to some extent with the bunch of talented pups he had at BM.

I just cannot believe that anyone would want him as our manager over Jose Mourinho. Mourinho.

Okay then, take him out and replace him with Frank De Boer, the point was that there are other options outside of the José bubble that people seem too focused on as if it is him or oblivion for the club.

Can't see Memphis getting many more minutes this season.

A combo of Carrick and Fellaini. Great.

Too slow as a pair. Simples, unless you Van blinkered or want to play Fellaini further up front.

Of course there are options. The drunk bloke that hangs outside my local Waitrose is an option. The point is are those options demonstrably better than Mourinho and the answer is no.

And also...Oblivion for the club? Arent you the one that recently described United as a nothing club now?

With the Dutch not being in the Euros this year he should take advantage of a long summer, if you change manager next season he might kick on.

Well appointing Giggs ahead of Mourinho somehow means the club would be doing something right, so there's that option...

I hope so, I have this slightly irrational dislike of him. I know Fellaini gets a lot of stick and he's held up as representing how poor we currently are, but for me Memphis is the better representation of our struggles. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong but I think he's likely to be another dud that we've splashed millions on.
