The question is, what does he have to do as a manager to prove himself capable of coming back to United?
So just hypothetically speaking, say if he took Stoke into the Champions League, (I am not going to say do a Leicester and win the league!) and then keep them in and around fourth or fifth place. Something along those lines I would say, would be enough to show that he is good at this management lark, but the hard thing will be of course getting such a prominent job in the first place. |

If he won the league with any English, Spanish, German or Italian club then he would probably qualify... Even if those teams were favourites

Not much he does as a manager at club level would put him in the bracket of being acceptable for the United job other than the fact he is Ryan Giggs and most people suggest that in itself shouldn't be enough anyway.
Doing well with a smaller side doesn't really ready you for the task of managing a club like Man Utd. Moyes did well with Everton but was hopelessly out of his depth at the sheer scale of the post and Everton are a big side in their own right. |

I would say, and this is of course only my personal opinion, he would have to do great things with a club not expected to great things.

I'm honestly not sure what he has to do to prove himself. I've heard people say that to manage us you have to have won in Europe, but seriously only 2 clubs per season can do that, and 5 or 6 clubs seem to do so on a regular basis. |

OK, anyone care to to suggest a manager who has done this previously? With say a club like errr.... Everton?

It is very hard, as it should be, for anyone to have the right and proper credentials to be our manager, as we should only from now on in, be looking to appoint the very best person for the role. In terms of Giggs, that should also apply to him, he needs to go away, out the hours and years in, and if he is a success in the future, then and only then, should we be looking at him, as a potential candidate to be our manager. |

I think it's potentially a good signing and I'm happy to have such a character at the club, but there's also part of me that's a little concerned it could go tits up. So I'll just smile and hope for the best rather than start doing cartwheels round my living room.
As for Mkhitaryan, now that's the signing that will get me popping corks. The Guardian, a usually fairly sensible source of information, keeps pushing the Pogba to United line every day. It's starting to make me think there may be something in it. I'd still be staggered if he actually did end up back here but stranger things have happened. |

It's not that bad over there tbh. I've dipped my toe in recently with the referendum going on and it's no worse than the football forum in all honesty.

I can see him possibly breaking the 20 goal barrier, if we can get him going asap. |

Never see the Real Madrid threat as the major boner killer that some make it out to be. If he turns up here, plays superbly for a couple of season and then ****s off to Spain it's not a big problem. We'll have gotten two seasons from a great player and most likely our money back too.

Err no Man Utd has signed for Zlaten
![]() They say great players make the ball talk. Zlatan makes it recite Shakespeare. Zlatan doesn't jump for headers. He descends. One of Zlatan's bicycle kicks once won the tour de-France. Pele is the black Zlatan. The only person who has a better cross than Zlatan is Jesus. Oh, this season is going to be so much fun...... ![]() Quote:
It'll be interesting to see how Rashford gets on, this year. He was something of an unknown quantity last season, but you'd have to assume that teams will be wise to him, from now on. Big season for him.
Meanwhile, the Star reckon that we're in 'advanced talks' with Pogba, and are ready to pay £80m. Madrid and Barcelona need to pull their fingers out. ![]() Quote:
Are you serious? Kante over Pogba?
The only crazy thing about the cost for Pogba is that we'll paying however many millions for a moment of madness, when they felt that Rafael and Park could do a better job in the middle of the pitch than he could even back when he was a teenager. It was that non selection and the selection of those two that prompted the departure. Even today I can't fathom out why those two were selected ahead of him. Quote:
I guess that as I say I have been brainwashed by Moyes and then LvG into accepting mediocrity, rather than the best, I need to get my head around to thinking that we are capable of signing the best players once again.

If he's clearly off the pace, and can't adapt, well he's only here for a year. Mourinho's no mug. If it's not working, he'll change it up. I don't see him 'doing a Van Persie', but I struggle to see a downside. People moan about Falcao, but did it really hurt us? |

Am I the only one here underwhelmed by the Zlatan signing?
I fear paying a fortune in wages for someone just looking for his last pay day, strutting around and not being a team player. I really hope I'm wrong though |

Doing well with a smaller side doesn't really ready you for the task of managing a club like Man Utd. Moyes did well with Everton but was hopelessly out of his depth at the sheer scale of the post and Everton are a big side in their own right. Also, Giggs has a problem in that he's been part of 2 management failures by United's high standards and he never got sacked but everyone else did, which gives the impression he was never given a 'real job' because if he had he'd have been as responsible for the failures as much as the others were, wouldn't he? So he'd have been sacked, but he never was. I certainly don't blame Jose for wanting him no where near his management team for that reason alone. And United said the other week there had been no offers of jobs for Giggs at all. Maybe it's cos of that odd position he seemed to have at United in that he was taken on and not sacked just because he was Ryan Giggs. So many of his old mates say he should get the job because he's a United legends, he knows the United way, and he knows the club inside out. So why would that appeal to any other club? Doesn't help any other club that he only knows United inside out, does it? |

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see him here, and I'm pretty positive about his chances of succeeding, but it's tinged with a slight concern that it might not work out and we could be left short up front. |
