Nice people can succeed in sport:

Roger Federer
Frank Lampard
Graham Taylor
Bobby Robson
Tony Adams
Mika Hakkinen
Jenson Button
David Seaman
David Beckham
Daley Thompson
Roger Black
Claudio Ranieri

just some examples.

Don;t need to be unlikeableand/or a cheat a la Mourinho, Michael Schumacher, Maradona, etc.

Can't just be me surely?”

He's quite good at passing back to the goalkeeper.

Sleeping with your brothers wife isn't sordid?

I presume he also had feelings for that busty Welsh model too?

That injunction was just to keep his legal team busy and spare his wife's feelings?

Sound as a pound our Ryan!

Depends if he had feelings for her or not.

Fact it went on for some eight years suggests it is likely he did.

It is possible to love more than one person, or be married to the wrong person.

Sleeping with a different person every day of the week, a la Peter Stringfellow - now that is sordid. It suggests you are only interested in sex and are incpable of romantic feelings for anyone.

Never understood why so many United fans cared who Giggs slept with and why. People too keen to conflate being a football fan with gossiping and the salon reading Heat magazine. If you want to treat the game like Loose Women, go and watch Loose Women instead.

C'mon it was sordid.

If his feelings were genuine, then fess up, call time on your marriage and move on.

He wanted the family package and the bit on the side without tarnishing his image.

who really gives a shit what Giggs or any other footballer does in their private life? Honestly?

It just smacks of pointless high horse attitudes when really it hasn't affected your life in one tiny way so get over it and move on.

This subject was brought up by another poster yesterday so i'm at Liberty to pass comment on it.

If you don't give a shit about it then that's your call.

The major hole in that theory is if that was the case he wouldn't have "picked" his sister in law out and continued the relationship for 8 years. Thats one thing that would blow apart the "family package" and "tarnish him image" in a way that meaningless playing away wouldn't if thats all he was after.

True, but come on who doesn't like an arrogant player when they play for your team?!

I don't necessarily think he picked her out but the fact it was his brother's wife is far less palatable for some than if it was an eight relationship with some random woman.

So, you are having a go at people who dislike that Giggs was shagging his brother's missus for 8 years and for questioning such a wreckless and carefree attitude.

I'm reading that right, my eyes aren't deceiving me are they?

It's irrelevant. This isn't Coronation Street, we judge footballers but what they do on the pitch. Stop being so desperate to turn it into a soap opera where we all have a biscuit and a natter over a cup of tea.

If Beckham still played for us we'd be endlessly talking about his affair and his hair and his clothes and saying things like "Gosh you'll never guess who I heard he was getting close to? That one from Strictly. Ooh I know makes your blood run cold Mavis doesn't it. Ooh go on, have another custard cream. You see the way Luke Shaw does his hair? Bill from the salon says he's hiding his roots!"

Jesus forgive me, but I'm a football fan.

And again.

I find it hard to believe that you could read that as 'picking on Batdude', when he's a fully-functional adult, well into his 30's, who has been happy to engage with what's been said.

I find it incredibly patronising to the aforementioned fully-functioning adult, well into his 30's, that you feel the need to treat him like a child. He can speak for himself.

By the way, care to point out where I was 'in the wrong'?

Non-United fans trying to disrupt the thread again.

Pretty sure that isn't allowed.

I genuinely don't understand your protection of Bats. You yourself are told plenty of times that you're annoying or talk about how good looking footballers are but you never feel the need to cause a scene by wanting people to jump to your defence. Bats is a 30 something man with his own company. People bleating about his bad treatment makes him look like some kind of village idiot.

Johnstone, Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Blind, Shaw, Carrick, Herrera, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Memphis, Wilson
Subs: J Pereira, Blackett, Jones, Tuanzebe, Varela, Januzaj, Mata, A Pereira, Valencia, Young, Keane

Great to see Shaw starting.

I was just thinking, looking at our striking options, transfer fee wise, (and if we are to say Martial is a wide left player), have we got the cheapest set in the league, as Ibra, Rashford, and Wilson (plus Keane as well) didn't cost us a single penny in transfer fees!

When was the last time we could say that about a set of strikers for any top club?!

The Shaw and Memphis partnership on that side of the pitch is back in action again, which is good to see, as I think both brought the best out of each other before Shaw's very unfortunate injury.
