Of course the more important you are the more you get away with however in the case of Giggs there was no case to answer as far as Man Utd were concerned.

Not always the case, since we sacked a manager for an affair... I think the manager is more important than the club physio, and more so when the said manager was close to making us a title winning team again.

However, such behaviour if the stories are true helped us become the club we are today.. With another club getting rid of a star player for having an affair.

Although it was a shitty thing for the Doc to do he is still married to that woman he was having an affair with.

Like I said in a post a day or two ago, if there are genuine feelings for someone else despite being married it's better to admit it and either work on the marriage or end it.

What did for Docherty was the fact that it had a direct impact on the club. Had he had an affair with a woman who worked in a supermarket down the road there would have been no action taken, quite rightly, however he effectively crapped on his own doorstep and undermined his authority at the club so had to go.

It was also a different era, we were not as big a world wide brand as we are currently, and so it might have been easier in those times (I wasn't around so I don't know for sure), to sack a manager, whereas if for example José did something similar today, perhaps it would be the physio that would be let go.

its also fairly irrelevant to bring up attitudes 40 odd years ago and apply them to today. People in the 1950s were losing their jobs for being gay but its not going to happen now and if it does/did the outrage it would bring would be understandable.

I was using what happened with the Doc, more of an example of how it's not always the case of the more important you are you get away with more. In all fairness it was always going to end up badly that situation, the unfortunate thing is that we know that Busby didn't like the Doc for what ever reason and the affair made the choice of who to sack easier as Busby and Louis Edwards were still at that point good friends.

Most amazing thing about the Giggs affair - literally - to me, anyway, was that he carried on this clever, sly deceit for 7 years! It wasn't a one-off thing, it didn't even last a month - 7 years!

Mind you, she's just as bad as him when you consider for 6 of those years she as 'just' living with his brother while she was shagging Giggs on the side. Everywhere you looked yesterday you could find millions of tweets saying the same thing - 'Jose spent more time on the touchline today than Van Gaal spent in 2 years'.

As Van Gaal spent about maybe 5 minutes (that game v Arsenal where he fell down to make a point, and the last minutes of the Cup final extra time) in total on the touchline in 2 years, that was easily done!

And Jose did first take up that position after, I think it was 1 minute and 20 seconds, something like that. And he seemed to spend most of the game on the touchline. I could've spent the game just watching him on the touchline if a camera had covered it! lol Just to witness this wonderful, foreign to United sight!

And not a bleedin' clipboard/folder/notepad in sight thank God.

Don't agree. Think Darmian can come good for us and I'm not sure it's worth spending over £20m on a backup defender. Think we'd probably be ok with Darmian, either Valencia or Varela and Fosu-Mensah as our options to be honest.

I'm all for giving Darmain another go. He started well last season before succumbing to philosophy along with a few others, and I'd like to think a new manager could get him back to form.

i happen to agree with van gaal's approach to management during a game, if a manager needs to spend the entire 90 minutes yelling at the players to get them to follow his instructions then he didn't do a good enough job preparing the team in the build up to the game. the players should all know what there jobs are when they step onto the pitch, they don't need to be yelled at for 90 minutes, these are grown men we are talking about. it irritates me far more when i see a manager ranting and raving on the touchline then when i see van gaal sitting on the bench with his notepad.

van gaal recieved similar praise when he first took the job because people were comparing him to moyes, ultimately the proof is in the pudding and the results are the only thing that matters.
