The bar hadn't been lowered, this is the reason we are demanding change.
These players playing with confidence should have won today. |

To be honest I thought we'd lose yesterday so the fact we're still in it is a bonus, the replay will be tough but with Chelsea and Arsenal both out there's a big incentive to make the semi's.

It has been lowered, our expectations are not to be winning the league, but just qualifying for the Champions League, we don't currently have a good enough squad to be fighting for the Champions League, Premier League or World Club Championship sadly enough.
The squad is good enough. If the problem was the squad why do we demand a change of management? The reason I am demanding a change of management is because Van Gaal is taking good players and making them look like bad players. I throw this question out to the floor...... Have we signed a single player since Fergie left that has performed up to or above expectation? I would suggest not and that being the case you have to ask why? It cant be that every single signing that has looked good and we have been happy with has suddenly become a poorer player when he pulls on the red shirt? Fellaini? Big bustling threat at Everton - lummox at Utd Mata? POTY at Chelsea, bit part at United Di Maria, Falcao, Darmian, Depay, Schneiderlin etc etc etc all exciting signings who looked good for 10 mins and then once the "philosophy" kicked in went downhill sharply. They aren't all bad players. Quite the opposite. I have no doubt under a manager who could unleash them they would be absolutely fine. |

I long for the days when we're again good enough to take on Orlando Rovers and FC Azteca for the prestigious World Club Championship.

I think the fact that you're disappointed and wanting a change of manager suggests that expectations haven't lowered. If Aston Villa finished this season in fifth their fans would be made up, you finish fifth and your fans would be rightly disappointed. If Liverpool somehow managed to make it to fourth we'd consider it a good end to the season, and a relatively successful season, just as you finishing fourth last season was considered good due to the season before that.

Most people expect United to challenge for the league. I think most people acknowledge they have the squad to do so. |

So you are saying expectations and barriers are set based on the previous season in man utd case.. Eddie is saying that they have been set based on the last 25 years and havent changed despite falling performances in the least three

Our squad is very good. You would definitely be able to make the case for bolstering the attack and probably a central defender but its not a million miles away from where it needs to be. Our problem has been management. Either too inexperienced to know what to do with what he has (Moyes) or too stubborn to be willing to make the most of what's at his disposal (Van Gaal)
Even though you could improve the side through tweaking there are absolutely no excuses as to why we're not challenging for the title this year. |

Look at Di Maria, okay he was a coward jumping ship so soon but he looked a very good buy when he first arrived. The club isn't going to ship out all these underperforming players, the first one to go is usually the manager. Obviously if Jose does come in and the same underperforming players don't improve then we may have bought a few duds or they just can't step up for a big club/are not suited to the English league. But I'd be suprised if we didn't see an improvement if LVG went. |

Van Gaal's probably too old for the job. Not everyone maintains their energy and drive in their senior years. It's clear that whilst he's capable of pulling out results when there's fan resentment to abate the criticism for a game or two - he can't do it long term. We soon slip into a complacent malaise, which indicates to me that the manager just isn't capable of motivating his players week in week out.

I haven't expected United to challenge for the title at any time since SAF retired. Neither has the club. LvG said he was planning to challenge next year, but I still don't think they're ready as things stand (FWIW) and he will likely not get the chance to complete his contract anyway. I did expect them to maintain top 4 level though, so if they fail to achieve that, well....

Of course we should be challenging in a season where all the other "big" clubs have failed. If City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool had all been playing to their potential you could excuse it but after two seasons £250m spent and their relative failures we should be right up there right now.
United have some excellent players in most positions but LVG/injuries have conspired to create the illusion that major surgery is required - persoanly I think th likes of Mata, Rooney and the central midfield slow things down too much - pace is limited to just out wide and up top occasionally. The current trend for pressing & counter-attack makes pace and moving the ball quickly even more important than ever before - United lack the former in some key areas and LVG seems allergic to the latter. A few tweaks, a new manager and two/three top players down the spine of the team and things will turn around pretty quickly. I'm Klopp given a kitty and a pre-season will do likewise for us. I'm still damn nervous about Thursday - thought United looked OK yesterday, especially early in the game and an early goal for you Thursday would make things interesting. |

Nobby Stiles was targeted with particular violence by the Estudiantes players, receiving punches, kicks and headbutts for his trouble, yet each time he walked away without retaliating. However, even the referees seemed to be against Stiles; at one point, the linesman reported Stiles to the referee apparently for simply standing too close to Bilardo. After suffering incessant hounding by the Estudiantes players, Stiles finally retaliated and was immediately sent off by referee Hugo Sosa Miranda, meaning that he would be suspended for the second leg. Bobby Charlton also suffered a severe head wound and required stitches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Intercontinental_Cup The good old days, eh? |

The fans of all those clubs are all probably saying the same thing - it's been a perfect storm for Leicester. It's no coincidence the two most consistent teams occupy the top two places. Injuries have been very kind

I'm still damn nervous about Thursday - thought United looked OK yesterday, especially early in the game and an early goal for you Thursday would make things interesting. I certainly know that in the Summer someone had told be that Chelsea would be out of the European places and Arsenal and City would have the frailties they have had and that Liverpool would be changing their manager mid season I would have been thinking "we should be winning this" given the signings we had made and the squad we had. It also makes not making top 4 even more unacceptable. I cant see Liverpool chucking away a two goal lead on Thursday simply because I don't see the scenario where we can score twice and not concede! |

Well we're capable of conceding a goal, but if Lovren and Sakho are playing it'd be tough to get two, and that's while also stopping us from getting an away goal for 90 minutes.
It's not exactly over by any means. It'll be tough for us as well as you! |

This morning I didn't think we'd get top four, then at lunchtime I thought we would, so all in all a pretty good day I would say!
