Frankly I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go to any top players' testimonial.
Please tell me all the proceeds are going to charity.......

Any thoughts about Mourinho leaving Wayne Rooney as the captain even though his level has significantly decreased ? I don't even think that he justifies first dibs on play anymore 🙈
It's the right thing to do now as Rooney appears to be popular with team mates so why upset things this early?
I think Mourinho may be in the Capello school of "what's so important about the captain" and will just see how things pan out. He certainly had no qualms about leaving the Chelsea captain on the bench when he thought it necessary.

What other options are there as captain?

Carrick, Schweinsteiger? Neither of which are that certain to get that many games.

De Gea perhaps? Smalling? Certainly they should play regularly, so maybe one of them, but is it really worth the hassle, and the change, to give it to one of them?

Fellaini?

This may not be a popular suggestion but Ibrahimovic could captain. He was the PSG #2 captain for a number of seasons and also the Sweden captain for a long time. Certainly has experience.

Personally I would still have Rooney as captain, with Ibrahimovic #2 and Smalling #3.

Good shout for Ibra, ge could definitely be in the mix for the role, and as you say he could be a vice-captain, one with the ones that you men.

However for me, I don't think it is worse the hassle of the change, just continue with Rooney, if in a match that needs to change, do be it, let it be Smalling, Ibra, Carrick etc, but I wouldn't announce a different overall captain at this stage.

I don't see the appeal. Quite apart from the whole 'doesn't need the money' thing, which to be honest doesn't bother me, it just seems like a waste of time paying to attend something so insignificant. The level of play will be awful with everyone petrified of getting injured ahead of the real season, the result won't matter and the stadium will be full of weirdos who only go to testimonial and charity-type games who think sitting among little children with hundreds of those annoying air-horn things, is acceptable way for an adult to spend and afternoon.

My mate went to one of those UNICEF games at Old Trafford a couple of years back and tweeted a selfie, he was sat in a crowd of families with kids. He looked a proper weirdo. His 'sex offender' facial hair didn't help. It looked like one of those school trips you read about 30 years later when a whistle-blower comes forward.

I went to Scholes' purely because it was a Friday evening in the summer and we had a half day off work & spent the afternoon on the lash. I don't think I stayed until the end though.

They do attract a strange breed.

I went to that one as well, my main memory of it was a coachload of American tourists who turned up halfway through the first half then spent the duration of the match going back and forth for drinks, crisps, pies etc. Then when I was down having a wee at half time, I overheard one say "so who is this Scholes that they're all going on about?"

When Scholes reversed his decision to retire 6 months later, I felt like asking for my £20 back! Haven't been to one since.

Americans are a nightmare. I was over there for the last World Cup and one said to me that England needed to invest and sign better players 🙈

Yes, I have thoughts and it's the right thing to do. Who else stands out as captain material in that team? Using your own statement it can't be Carrick, Smalling in his spells as 3rd Captain hasn't really shown any true leadership qualities along the lines of those before him. So who are you left with??
Yes I see where you are coming from and I tend to agree.

^^^^^^. However, I can see Mou either benching him or giving the band to someone else if Wayne doesn't rise to the occasion.

Anyways, it's exciting to see how this team will pan out in a couple of weeks .

I think he will to be honest, i think the big question is, Will he get another contract? He will be 33 going on 34 when his contract expires, surely United won't give him another bumper deal worth £250,000 plus a week yet i can't see him going abroad and i doubt another English club would pay him that sort of wages at that age anyway but i think Wayne will want to keep playing until he is at least 35 years of age.

I went to that one and Gary Nev's as they were quite close together if I remember correctly.

Looks like the match tomorrow is off due to poor climate conditions.

Not much fun watching two teams slugging it out on a shit pitch risking injury to players.

At least City can't blame the traffic this time.

91,000 tickets sold too.

Oh well. I'd rather they didn't have these international pre-season tours. I get they're a money spinner but it has to be tremendously disruptive to preparation for the season.

Why would they be disruptive? It's not as if they are new thing United have been heading overseas for pre-season since the 80's now. It's part of the season now, that's without the money in the game. It also gives new players a chance to get to know the rest of the squad and build the team spirit. The jet lag may have an effect on the players, but at the end of the day, clubs wouldn't do them, regardless of the money if they were to the detriment to the teams chances.

91,000 tickets at an average of £140 each.

Thats a lot of money down the drain!

So onto Sweden for the Galatasary match, before the Rooney testimonial.

I feel for the fans out in China who wanted to watch us, but really if the conditions were not up for par, then it is the correct decision to call it off.

Hopefully those that had paid for a ticket get a full refund.

Driving to work in the torrential rain isn't 'new' either but tends generally do be quite disruptive.

Will lthr game be required arranged? Surely it doesn't leave enough time between other friendly games for that to happen.
Not the game says postponed not canceled.

United are flying back straight after the game, or rather the now cancelled game, while City still have one more to play over there, so it wont it be rearranged. I don't think Mourinho has been happy with the disruption to pre-season the tour has caused and he can't wait to get back to good training conditions and get preparation for the new season back on track apparently.

Wow, the state of the pitch is shockingly poor, so glad that we didn't have to play on it, as I think we might have picked up a fair few niggles or worse.

Take a look at @BBCSport's Tweet: https://twitter.com/BBCSport/status/...638487552?s=09

Chinese fans must be gutted. Bet they were looking forward to seeing their two favourite teams 'Manchester' play.
